CAMPAIGN UPDATE
NSU Achieves Its Ambitious Goal for Preeminence
| |
In 2020, NSU launched the Campaign to Preeminence with a goal of raising $500 million in both philanthropy and research, generating a combined $1 billion total by the end of 2025.
“As we all know, success breeds success,” said NSU President and Chief Executive Officer Harry Moon, M.D., FACS, FRCSEd. “Being so successful with the Campaign to Preeminence has been a game-changer for NSU and sets us up for our next trajectory to become Florida’s top, private research university. Future gifts and investments will provide for the preservation and long-term health of the university and will accelerate the achievement of this goal to the benefit of our students, our patients, and the communities we serve.”
| | PROGRAM Highlight | NSU Research | |
In the pursuit of research excellence, NSU reached a coveted milestone this February, when the Carnegie Foundation listed the university as an R1 top-tier research institution. This distinction reflects the university’s research excellence, which has led to more than 400 research/scholarship doctoral degrees awarded in one year. This milestone is bolstered by more than $50 million spent on advancing NSU’s research enterprise.
As the largest private research university in the state of Florida, NSU is a hub for real-world impact in the region. With cutting-edge facilities, internationally renowned researchers, and physician-scientists, NSU’s research is saving our seas; pioneering innovative treatments for cancer, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and neuroimmune diseases; and transforming the lives of patients at NSU Health clinics and health care institutes.

SCHOLARSHIP Spotlight
NSU Shepard Broad College of Law Dean’s Excellence Program
| |
A recent study conducted at NSU discovered that students who achieve a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or more in their first semester of law school—regardless of their Law School Admission Test (LSAT) score or undergraduate GPA—have a 97 percent chance of passing the bar exam.
"Unfortunately, NSU Law was losing some of their best students, at the end of their first year, to schools who were poaching for money," said Chuck Tatelbaum, chair of the NSU Shepard Broad College of Law Board of Governors.
In response, the university created the NSU Shepard Broad College of Law Dean's Excellence Program, a strategic initiative designed to retain top talent by offering a competitive scholarship package and unique leadership and engagement opportunities. To grow and continue the initiative, Kitty and Chuck Tatelbaum made a significant contribution to establish a scholarship fund.
| | The 2025 inaugural Dean’s Excellence Program scholarships have been awarded to 39 first-year NSU Law students, including 10 part-time students. Joaquin Lopez, Kassidy Caride, Angelica Almeida, Alexa Altman, and Alexander Linder (pictured above, right to left) are among those recipients. In this collection of videos, the students share their stories and express gratitude for the award. | |

About the Artist
The masthead for this month's issue was created by Raul Perez, native of Savannah, Georgia. Perez hopes to become a concept artist and design characters for the video game industry. When illustrating, Perez draws inspiration from artist Kazuma Kaneko to create semirealistic characters with a moody, melancholy, or pensive tone. He typically uses neutral colors with small splashes of vibrant color to enhance the details.
