New JD Concentration - IP, Technology and Cybersecurity Law
The new “Intellectual Property, Technology and Cybersecurity Law” concentration capitalizes on the College of Law’s significant teaching and curriculum strengths in the field of intellectual property, matching these strengths to the current substantial market need for intellectual property specialists. This concentration is available to both entering and continuing students.

Environmental Law Symposium – Environmental Issues in Changing Times - April 20, 2018
|
This symposium will explore environmental law and policy shifts at the federal level under the new administration, as well as at the state level after the 2018 Florida legislative session. Presenters will include practicing lawyers and academics offering local, state and national perspectives on issues such as climate change, sea level rise, energy issues, regulatory issues, and property rights. The Florida Bar approved
6 CLE general credits, 0.5 Ethics credits
and 6 Board Certification credits in City, County and Local Government Law, Real Estate or State and Federal Government and Administrative Practice.

2nd AIDD Clinic Roundtable and Conference
|
NSU Law held its second annual community roundtable “Successful Transition: A Collaborative Effort,” with guest speaker Jonathan Martinis, Esq. on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at the Panza Maurer Law Library. Martinis is the Senior Director for Law and Policy with the Burton Blatt Institute at Syracuse University in Washington, DC. The Shepard Broad College of Law Adults with Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities (AIDD) Law Clinic, which coordinated the roundtable, was made possible by a generous donation from The Taft Foundation.

Alumni Admitted to Practice before the Supreme Court of the United States
|
On March 29, 2018, NSU Law made its biennial trip to the Supreme Court of the United States, for attorney admissions and to watch oral arguments. The visit to the nation’s capital began with a reception for NSU alumni in the Metro DC area. President George Hanbury, Dean Jon Garon, of NSU Law, and Emeritus Professor of Law Bruce Rogow attended the reception and swearing-in ceremony. Bruce Rogow was the Movant for the group.
Alumni admitted at the ceremony include Alexander D. Brown (JD 2004), Barbara Brush (JD 1988), Hilary A. Creary (JD 1993), Claire Cubbin (JD 1979), Christal L. Fish (JD 2001), Tiffany D. Garner (JD 2009), Taylor K. Hughes (JD 2013), Connie Kaplan (JD 2010), Martin D. Kiar (JD 2002), Helen M. Shaw Roper (JD 1980) and Peter Sobota (JD 2007).
NSU Law has held biennial trips to the Supreme Court for the Swearing-In ceremony. Since 2008 60 NSU Law alumni and 7 faculty and staff have been admitted.

NSU Interprofessional Education Day
Professor Marilyn Uzdavines
led the team of students, faculty and alumni from NSU Law to participate in the Interprofessional Education Day at NSU’s Health Professions Division on March 19, 2018. The event drew together nearly 1,000 students from dentistry, nursing, law, occupational therapy, optometry, osteopathic medicine, the physician assistant program, pharmacy, physical therapy, and speech language pathology. NSU Law faculty members participating in IPE Day this year included

Organized a NSU Law presence at the March For Our Lives in Washington, D.C. on March 24, 2018. Dean Duhart collected funds from NSU Law faculty to send two law students to the march. Anabel Cordero (2L) and Christina Wittmeier (1L) both participated. Student Amanda Sullivan (1L) also attended the march with her family. March for Our Lives was a demonstration against gun violence organized by survivors of the Feb. 14 school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. Dean Duhart is a former English teacher at Stoneman Douglas.

ABA National Appellate Advocacy Team are Regional Champions
Aleah Shuren (4L), James Foster (2L), Bethany J. M. Pandher (4L), were unanimously voted to be the regional champions at the National Appellate Advocacy Competition in Boston, MA.

Annual Domenick L. Gabrielli National Family Law Moot Court competition
Jamie Nakoa received the third-place oral advocate award and the team’s brief scored sixth out of 24 teams. Jamie and Talhia Sanchez advanced after outscoring Penn State and arguing two rounds against Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.
