On-Campus-Interviews (OCI) Fall 2017
September 1 - October 20, 2017
Center for Career and Professional Development (CPD)
Fall 2017 OCI interviews begin on September 1, 2017. The program includes public interest,
private
sector and government employers who are seeking 2L-4L students.
On Campus Interviews allows students to "bid" on (apply to) participating employers who select candidates for interviews for potential summer and full-time employment. This program also includes Resume Collections which allow students to submit their resumes to employers who have expressed an interest in hiring Shepard Broad College of Law students. The employers then have the opportunity to contact students who have been selected to proceed through a formal interview process.
The Office of Career and Professional Development also provides access to Symplicity, the employment database the allows students and alumni to search job postings, apply to opportunities and have access to helpful career resources provided by employers and the CPD Team. To recruit Shepard Broad Law students as a Fall OCI employer, or have career-related questions please contact CPD.

2017 International Faculty Training Workshop, Educating Millennials and Beyond
July 26 - 28, 2017
This year’s International Faculty Training Workshop focused on what law faculty, as educators, can do to understand our audience and effectively educate the current generation of students and the one that follows. Law educators from around the world came together to expand their knowledge of teaching law students, as well as to share their experiences. | Read Full Press Release
"The goal of the workshop was to share ideas on how to educate millennials in law schools globally.” Shahabudeen Khan, Associate Dean of International Program, NSU Shepard Broad College of Law. Topics included technology, entrepreneurship, social justice, global perspective and experiential learning/teaching.
In-depth discussion and learning experiences covered engaging millennials with hands-on, application–based case studies (new knowledge is discovered and synthesized actively between group members) describing and employing the National Institute for Trial Advocacy’s (NITA) “Learning by Doing” mode.

NSU Law hosts lunch and provides Bar Success Kits
July 25 - 26, 2017
Some 200 graduates from the NSU Law Class of May 2017 sat for the Florida Bar Exam on July 25 and 26 in Tampa, Florida. Associate Dean of Students Michele Struffolino and Director of the Critical Skills Program Sara Berman, accompanied by law school staff, were at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel and Marina, providing these future attorneys with lunches, “bar success kits,” and the heartfelt encouragement of the entire NSU Law family.

Supreme Court of the United States - March 19, 2018
This spring, a limited number of law alumni will have the opportunity to be admitted to appear before the United States Supreme Court. NSU Law alumni are invited to apply now to join the College of Law at our upcoming Supreme Court Swearing-In ceremony in Washington, D.C., on Monday, March 19, 2018. Successful applicants will attend the Supreme Court session on March 19, where attorney Bruce Rogow will move for the admission of the NSU Law candidates to the Bar of the Supreme Court. Law alumni and special guests will gather for a small reception in Washington, D.C., on Sunday evening, March 18. In addition, breakfast will be provided on March 19 at the Supreme Court prior to the Swearing-In. Attorneys and other guests in attendance will be invited to stay for the Court’s Oral Argument sessions that follow the Swearing-In. There are very few slots available for applicants to the U.S. Supreme Court Swearing-In event.

Professor Kathy Cerminara
was honored with the Wexler/Winick Distinguished Service Award by the International Society for Therapeutic Jurisprudence at the International Congress on Law and Mental Health (ICLMH) in Prague, Czech Republic, on July 11, 2017.
Professor Cerminara presented on Advance Directive Statutes: A Therapeutic Approach for Patients With Disorders of Consciousness at the ICLMH on July 12, 2017.

Billie Jo Kaufman - SEALS President
Bilie Jo Kaufman, JD 1990, will be sworn in as President of South Eastern Association of Law Schools (SEALS) at the 2017 Conference on Thursday, August 3 in Boca Raton, FL. Kaufman is the Associate Dean for Library and Information Resources and Professor of Law at American University Washington College of Law.

The Honorable Lourdes Simon was named to the 11th Judicial Circuit Court in July 2017.
1997
Denise Gavica Perez, joined Akerman LLP as a partner, with their Labor & Employment Practice Group. Gavica Perez focuses her practice on corporate immigration matters, with a strong emphasis in the healthcare sector.
2000
Joshua Levy is the current mayor of Hollywood, FL. He was elected in 2016.
Leonard Collins has been appointed to serve on the Florida Federal Judicial Nominating Commission (JNC) for the 115th Congress. Collins will serve as conference chair for the JNC Northern District. The JNC is charged with identifying and recommending to the senators highly qualified individuals for consideration to become U.S. district judges in each of the three judicial districts in Florida.
2006
Jennifer Diaz, discussed “ABC’s of AD/CVD & CBP Enforcement” and gave a presentation, “FDA FSMA Compliance Seminar for Importers,” at the Miami Free Zone in May 2017. Diaz will speak on “Tariff Engineering: How to Do It Properly” at the Global Trade Educational Conference in Long Beach, CA in August 2017.
Lauren S. Fallick, with Haber Slade in Miami, FL took part in a panel presentation in May 2017 on insurance agent liability, and Errors and Omissions (E&O) claims at the Florida Association of Insurance Agents seminar in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
2007
Joshua Frachtman, with Baker and Zimmerman, P.A. in Parkland, FL was included in the 2017 edition of Super Lawyers and earned “Super Lawyers Rising Star” for 2 years.
2010
Patyl Oflazian, has been nominated to receive the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s 40 Under 40 Outstanding Lawyers of South Florida award. Oflazian will be honored in November 2017 at the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation gala event.

Evelyn Batista
was accepted into the Hispanic National Bar Association’s Latina Commission 2017 Leadership Academy, to be held in Kansas City, Missouri in September 2017. Batista was also selected for an Equal Justice Works Fellowship with Catholic Charities Legal Services of Miami to directly represent unaccompanied minors in Immigration Court. Additionally, Batista was selected for a QLaw Fellowship in Washington State, with the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project to directly represent LGBTI clients in Immigration cases.

Alexis Montiglio received the Florida Bar Animal Law Section’s Student 2017 Achievement Award at The Florida Bar Convention in Boca Raton, FL in June 2017. Alexis is interning this summer with the Environmental Protection Agency.

Haydee Nakash and Lee Smith
along with their coaches Professor Beharriell and Kara Stachel, Esq., participated in the Young Lawyers Division’s Robert Orseck Memorial Moot Court Competition at the June 2017 Florida Bar Convention in Boca Raton where Haydee and Lee were quarter finalists.
