NSU Law Holds Bar Induction Ceremony for New Lawyers
|
Participating members of the Class of 2017 who passed the July Florida Bar Exam were sworn in at the Bar Induction Ceremony held on September 18. NSU Law Dean Jon Garon welcomed the group, congratulated the new lawyers and their families for the hard work, support, and sacrifices it took to get to this day.
The Honorable Melanie G. May (JD 1981) of the 4th District Court of Appeal and judges from the 17th Judicial Circuit in Broward County, Florida administered the oath, including The Honorable Robert F. Diaz (JD 1984), The Honorable Mindy Solomon (JD 1981), The Honorable Kal Le Var Evans (JD 2003), The Honorable Ginger Lerner-Wren (JD 1983) and The Honorable Arlene Simon Backman (JD 1993). |

Professor Joel Mintz,
published a new casebook, A Practical Introduction to Environmental Law (Carolina Academic Press, 2017). The book, accompanied by an online Teacher’s Manual, was co-authored with a team of environmental law professors from around the country, recruited by Prof. Mintz. The book includes numerous practice-oriented problems, as well as chapters on environmental permitting, relevant administrative law, and recent amendments to the federal Toxic Substances Control Act that cannot be found in other Environmental Law texts.
Was a panelist in the “Teaching Environmental Law and Climate Change in the Post-Trump World” workshop, “Methods of Formative and Summative Assessment” workshop, Environmental Protection and the Green Economy” workshop, and “Applying Design Thinking Innovation to Legal Education” panel, and was a moderator in the “Early Trends and Prospects for Environmental Protection in the New Administration” panel at the 2017 SEALS conference in Boca Raton.

Hurricane Relief – Agriculture Community Assistance
|
NSU Law Student Joshua Garcia, along with his family and the non-profit organizations Meals of Hope and Friendship House, support the immigrant and migrant workers that are at the heart of Florida’s agricultural industry. Food, water and other supplies were collected and delivered last week and will continue to be in the future.

NSU Law Clinic students attend first statewide Office of Public and Professional Guardians training symposium
|
NSU Law students in the Adults with Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities (AIDD) Clinic and Veterans Law Clinic (VLC) attended the Office of Public and Professional Guardians first statewide training symposium, hosted by the Palm Beach County Clerk of Court on September 26 and 27, 2017. Students connected and networked with legal professionals from the Department of Elder Affairs, Department of Public and Professional Guardians, Department of Children and Families (DCF), State Attorney’s Office, and Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA).
The students learned how to identify and engage vulnerable populations and the dynamics of how each of the agencies interacted collectively to protect the rights of Florida's disabled community.

Intellectual Property Law Society (IPLS) and NSU Law Student Federal Bar Association (FBA) hosted intellectual property attorney Scott Smiley.
|
IPLS and FBA hosted patent attorney and NSU Law adjunct professor Scott Smiley on Tuesday, September 26, 2017. Smiley reviewed his own NSU Law experiences and made recommendations to law students who wish to practice intellectual property law in federal courts. Students asked questions ranging from the intricacies of patent law to employment strategies for intellectual property law in South Florida.
