Professor Olympia Duhart, former SALT Co-President, named Associate Dean for Faculty and Student Development

Professor Olympia Duhart (J.D. 2003), former Co-President at the Society for American Law Teachers (SALT), has been named the new Associate Dean for Faculty and Student Development for the NSU Shepard Broad College of Law. Professor Duhart joined the College of Law faculty in 2005. She has served as Director of the Legal Research and Writing program since 2012 and in 2016 added the duties of Director of Faculty Development to her responsibilities. | Read Press Release here

NSU College of Law Hosts Alumni Reception at Annual Florida Bar Convention, honors Judge Robert Diaz as 2017 Adjunct of the Year

NSU College of Law hosted an alumni cocktail reception during the 2017 Annual Florida Bar Convention, at Boca Raton Resort and Club. Over 100 of our local and regional alumni attended the event, where Hon. Robert Diaz (J.D. 1984), was honored with an award for Adjunct of the Year, showcasing his excellence in teaching and supporting our students and Faculty members. Judge Diaz has served as an Adjunct Professor of Law since 1989 and has served as a member of the NSU Law Board of Governors since 2004 | Photos from Alumni Reception
Janice Shaw appointed new Assistant Dean of Career and Professional Development

Janice Shaw, J.D., has been appointed Assistant Dean of Career and Professional Development . Dean Shaw comes to NSU Law from Columbia Law School with an extensive career in the legal profession and career development services.

A native to South Florida, Dean Shaw received her Bachelor of Political Science at Florida State University and her Juris Doctor at Georgetown University Law Center. Shaw began her legal career as an Associate for the Law Firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP before moving into career advising.

Master’s Reception and Summer Institute

NSU Shepard Broad College of Law will welcome Master of Science in Law students to campus for a Residential Institute (RI) during the weekend of July 7-8, 2017. All Master’s Program students, alumni, full-time faculty members, adjunct faculty, and staff are invited to participate in a Kick-Off Reception on Friday, July 7, from 4:30 - 6:30 pm on the 3rd Floor of the Panza Maurer Law Library. 

On Saturday, July 8, the RI will include an opportunity for students who are registered for Professor Timothy Arcaro’s summer “Foundations in Advocacy” course to attend class sessions at the NSU Law main campus as part of a hybrid opportunity that includes coursework to be completed both online and on-campus. The on-campus portion of the course will focus on administrative advocacy including an opportunity for students to develop and enhance oral and written skills.

Jon Garon
Dean Jon M. Garon gave a presentation, The Role of the Florida Law Schools for Enhancing Inclusion, at the Palm Beach County Bar Association’s Third Diversity Summit: Are We as Diverse as We Think?, on May 31, 2017.

Dean Garon published his most recent book, Pop Culture Business Handbook for Cons and Festivals (Manegiare Publications) on June 14, 2017. Dean Garon’s blog related to his books on entertainment, media, and technology is available at jongaron.com.
Professor Robert M. Jarvis published a book review of Baseball Meets the Law: A Chronology of Decisions, Statutes and Other Legal Events, in the Florida Bar Journal, at 91-JUN Fla. B.J. 51 (2017).
Professor Joel Mintz published an op-ed, How (if ever) can Democrats reoccupy the White House?, in the Sun Sentinel, on June 23, 2017.
Senior Associate Director and Adjunct Professor of Law  Becka Rich
developed an exercise in negotiating with legal research providers that was featured in a Legal Executive Institute article on June 29, 2017 for innovation in legal education.
Professor Emeritus of Law Marc Rohr wrote an article, First Amendment Fora Revisited: How Many Categories Are There?, featured in the Nova Law Review Symposium, at 41 Nova L. Rev. 221 (2017).
