Gift: Sharon and Mitchell W. Berger Entrepreneur Law Clinic
Through a generous gift by Sharon and Mitchell W. Berger, NSU Law will launch the Sharon and Mitchell W. Berger Entrepreneur Law Clinic beginning the fall 2017 semester. The Berger Family Fellow will supervise the program for NSU students in the areas of intellectual property and corporate law for startups. The Berger Entrepreneur Law Clinic will help develop both legal skills as well as entrepreneurial business skills through incubator, accelerator and similar outreach programs. The Berger Entrepreneur Law Clinic's client base will include entrepreneurs who meet the Berger Entrepreneur Law Clinic's client criteria, such as NSU students and faculty, and business community startups, whether not-for-profit or for-profit in nature.

PILS Auction Day of Success

The Public Interest Law Society (PILS) hosted the 24th Annual Auction on February 1st, 2017. This year, organizers hosted over 40 different company donations and over 100 total items. Attendees had the unique opportunity to bid on a variety of items such as exciting experiences with professors, sports merchandise, restaurant tours, and family friendly getaways. With all the generous contributions, the event raised over $10,000 for the Rebecca Knox Public Interest Law Summer Fellowship. "Professionalism & Ethics in the Courtroom"
February 24, 2017
At the final mentoring breakfast of the semester, a panel of judicial speakers, Judge Robert Diaz, Judge Melanie May and Judge Kal Evans, gave an informational and insightful discussion about how attorney's should present themselves, and their cases in a courtroom. Judge May discussed the five C's of professionalism; Courtesy, Candor, Competency, Concise, and Conciliatory. Judge Diaz and Judge Evans discussed some basic principles of courtroom conduct.|

Professor Brion Blackwelder was appointed by Commissioner Furr to the Planning Council. Professor Blackwelder was previously a member of the Planning Council from 1995 to2002. He will took the oath of office on the February 23 Planning Council meeting.

Professor James Wilets was interviewed on early February by Pam Giganti on WPBT2 on the Trump's executive actions regarding asylum seekers, green card holders and visitors, as well as the President's attack on municipal sanctuaries. The program aired on WPBT2 on February 3rd was rebroadcast on Sunday, February 5th.

NSU Law Student Wins Tittle of:
Miss Gold Coast 2017
February 18, 2017
The local level pageant was held on Saturday, February 18 at the Dillards Performing Center for Arts. The Miss America scholarship pageant represents four pillars: scholarship, service, success, and style. Ideally, the title holders are expected to manifest each pillar that Miss America stands for. Each contestant must have a platform they wish to advocate for. Ritika chose Children's Education and Literacy as my platform because she wanted to focus on serving children who do not have the resources necessary to achieve their goals. In the end - 3 fortunate ladies were crowned titles, including Mrs. Singh. She received the title of Miss Gold Coast 2017 and will be competing in the Miss Florida pageant, which will be held in Lakeland, Florida this June. The winner of Miss Florida will advance to compete with ladies from across the country in the Miss America pageant in September.
