Associate Dean of Student Services and Professor of Law Michele Struffolino is the inaugural recipient of the National Association of Law Student Affairs Professionals CORE Four Award. Dean Struffolino consistently demonstrates the competencies, values and ethics of the very best law student affairs professional.

Dan Daley elected State Representative
|
Congratulations to Dan Daley (JD 2016) who was elected unopposed as the state representative for district 97. Representative Daley was sworn in by Judge Ari Porth (JD 1995). Daley interned with then representative Porth in 2012 prior to attending law school.
Daley served as the Coral Springs City Commissioner, a U.S. Air Force contracted cadet with ROTC and over ten years with the US Air Force Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol.

The NSU Trial Association will host its fifth annual Trial Advocacy Summer Institute (TASI) during the first week in August at NSU Law. TASI is a five-day course taught by NSU Law faculty and members of our litigation community. Students practice oral advocacy, trial skills, opening statements and closing arguments, direct and cross examination, and evidence law in a trial setting.
NSU Law Trial Association is requesting that judges and local attorneys volunteer to serve as judges at the Broward County Central Courthouse, Judicial Complex West Wing for the final mock trials.

08-07-19 The William A. Van Nortwick Appellate Workshop 2019
A CLE workshop presented by The Appellate Practice Section of The Florida Bar and hosted by NSU Shepard Broad College of Law.
This is a three-day intensive workshop focusing on the appellate process. In advance of the program, attendees will draft an appellate brief. The brief will be critiqued by appellate court judges and board-certified appellate practitioners. There will be small-group instruction on brief writing, including framing issues, drafting the statements of facts, and formulating arguments. In addition, participants will perform oral arguments.

On Campus Interview (OCI) Fall 2019 - Student Information

On-Campus Interviews have increased 50% since 2016
|
|
NSU Law invites students to participate in our Fall 2019 On-Campus Interview Program (OCI), held between August 26 and November 1, 2019. OCI allows students to apply to government, public interest, and law firm employers for summer associate, law clerk, and permanent employment. Employers may also choose to participate in our Resume Collection Program. This program allows employers to receive resumes and application materials from students. The employers then have the opportunity to contact interested students directly to schedule interviews.
Bidding for the program began in
Symplicity
on July 15.
To prepare, students should review the employer list and schedule an appointment with a career advisor to have their resume reviewed and to discuss their bid list.

president of The Florida Bar at it’s annual convention held in late June in Boca Raton, FL. Stewart is a past president of the Bar’s Young Lawyers Division and has served as the 19th Circuit representative on the Bar’s Board of Governors for 11 years.
A third-generation Florida lawyer, Stewart is a partner at Rossway Swan Tierney Barry Lacey & Oliver, P.L., and focuses on alternative dispute resolution and litigation, primarily in the areas of probate, real estate and contract disputes.

Kurt Hoffman
has filed to run for Sarasota County Sheriff in 2020. Hoffman has held the ranks of general counsel, captain, major and colonel with the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. With over 30 years in law enforcement, one issue Hoffman said he would like to address is the county jail, which is consistently over capacity. Hoffman also plans to continue to build relationships among governmental bodies.

was presented with the Tallahassee Women Lawyers Diversity & Inclusion Leadership Award on June 12. The award, created in 2016, recognizes individuals, businesses, government entities and professional associations who display leadership in fostering diversity in their workplaces or industries and the surrounding community. The award is intended to highlight the contributions of those who advance the cause of justice and equality in the community and society through diversity and inclusion. Ricci was selected as the award winner for her efforts to value, promote and celebrate diversity through her immigration work for the LGBTQ+ community, foreign-born veterans and advocacy for members of minority religions.

Natalie Kay
, a partner in Kelley Kronenberg’s Fort Lauderdale office, has received a fellowship in the National Association of Distinguished Counsel Nation’s Top One Percent. This fellowship recognizes the nation’s top attorneys who raise standards to a new level and have a positive influence on fellow attorneys. Members are vetted by a research team, selected by a blue ribbon panel of attorneys with podium status from independently neutral organizations, and approved by a judicial review board. Kay handles all areas of Family and Marital Law, including representing parties in family appellate matters and has published opinions in the Fourth District Court of Appeal in Florida.

. The Honorable Judge Porth was Daley’s inspiration for one day becoming a state representative as Daley ran Judge Porth’s Tallahassee office through 2012. Daley can be reached at his local Sunrise office and in September in Tallahassee. As the Coral Springs city Commissioner, Daley became the youngest elected official in Coral Springs at the age of 22.
