NSU Law students Scott Simmons (JD 2020) and Wesley Wallace (JD 2020) earned the National Championship trophy in the National Criminal Procedure Tournament, hosted by the University of San Diego Law School. The team traveled to San Diego to compete against 40 other law schools from around the country. In addition to winning the entire competition, the team had the second best petitioner brief score
.
Coaches Professor Mark Dobson, Professor Megan Chaney, and moot court advisor Professor Heather Baxter helped prepare Scott and Wesley for the competition. The team extends their appreciation to all the faculty, students, and members of the local legal community who assisted the team in their practice rounds.

bested 33 teams to become the first place national champions in the Buffalo-Niagara Mock Trial Competition. Alexsandra Litowsky won Best Advocate overall. This is the third national championship the NSU Law Advocacy Program has won in 2019.
Coaches included Ted Daus (J.D. 1991), Brian Engel (J.D. 2012), and trial association faculty advisor, Professor Megan Chaney. This team also extends their appreciation to all the faculty, students, and members of the local legal community.

The most recent mentoring dinner on October 23, 2019 was hosted by the NSU Career and Professional Development Office and attended by 80+ students, alumni mentors and guests, faculty, and staff.
The distinguished alumni panel are members of the judiciary representing the Appellate, Circuit, and County Courts in the South Florida region.
Moderated by Dean Jon M. Garon, the panel discussed and highlighted their unique career paths. The NSU Law alumni judges provided valuable insights into the judicial career path and the personal qualities and characteristics necessary to become a successful judge.

NSU Law hosted the 6th Annual Insurance Law Symposium,
Insurer Bad Faith: Best Practices and Litigation Trends.
The symposium was presented by the American College of Coverage Counsel.
The Co-Chairs of the Symposium include Marialuisa Gallozi, Hugh Lumpkin, and NSU Law Alumnus and Chair of the NSU Law Board of Governors, Doug McIntosh (JD 1981)
. NSU Law Professor Amanda Foster, along with the symposium co-chairs, welcomed over 80 attorneys, NSU Law faculty, staff, alumni, and students.
The Symposium consisted of a full day of panels and presentations on critical topics such as best practices in policy formation and claims handling, developing trends in insurance law, and bad faith.

Black Law Student Association Panel presents "When They See Us"
|
|
The Panel of faculty and attorneys will focus on the Central Park Five Jogger case. The drama miniseries titled, “When They See Us” was released in May of 2019. It sparked a nationwide discussion about the details of the case and how five innocent young men spent years fighting the convictions that were placed against them.
This panel focuses on the legal perspective from different vantage points. Attendees will learn more about the case, how the case was handled, and how relatable the pre-trial/trial process is to our justice system today.

In addition to his extensive military service, Colonel Lassner is also a managing partner of one of the largest law firms in the state of Florida, Cole, Scott & Kissane. Colonel Lassner is member of the Florida Bar, the Military Affairs Committee, and the National Guard Officers Association.
