President's Message:

Greetings NTMCA Members!

The calendar says it's autumn, but no one told Texas! Here's to cooler weather on its way! I hope everyone working Federal and/or Local Elections is faring well. It certainly is an interesting time for all involved.

OCTOBER MEETING SUMMARY

Thank you to Alicia Richardson and Monica Solko for hosting our October meeting. What a beautiful building! Anyone that couldn't attend should visit and ask for a tour. It's definitely worth your time. Also noteworthy was the delicious lunch provided by TCP Catering. What a treat!

The business meeting included a detailed review of our FY 16-17 Budget, which was approved by the attendees. The Board worked very hard to present a balanced budget while maintaining our educational objectives. We also spoke at length on the Chapter's strategic plan for the coming year. It was an extremely productive meeting and I thank everyone for their input, advice, and efforts to improve operations and 'raise-up' our profession.

As a result of the meeting discussion, the Board will be reviewing how we serve our members. We will work with the Technology & Communications Committee to evaluate the manner in which information is disseminated to our members. In addition to our website, we conduct monthly meetings, distribute monthly newsletters, and occasionally email out pertinent information.  We will review potential survey questions to be sent out to the membership in early December. After the survey period ends, the Board will present the results at a monthly meeting.   Your input is most valuable to us so if you have any questions or suggestions, please contact me any time!

NOVEMBER 16th MEETING

Please join us at the Eisemann Center in Richardson. Our guest speaker, Britton Cunningham, will share insight on 'Working with Millennials'. We may know how to parent them, but working shoulder to shoulder can be challenging for some. Please come share your experiences and learn new skills. (Link is in this newsletter).

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE

Please submit your membership applications and FY16-17 dues as soon as possible. Membership Applications can be found on the website. Checks must be made out to 'NTMCA' and mailed to Amy Shelley as indicated.

COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS

At this time, I have one open position on the 2017 Holiday Committee. This event is far enough out that you have plenty of time to schedule volunteering. Please consider serving our membership. Give me a call for more information.

Thanks to all those who have volunteered for our various committees this year. We are well on our way to a wonderful year!

Respectfully Yours,   Carol Borges, President

  • New tires for cars
  • Assistance with Electric bills
  • Assistance with moving and deposits
  • Assistance with renewal of vehicle tags & license

Do You Know.....
The history of the Dr. Joyce Snay Scholarship fund?

Dr. Joyce Snay had a deep devotion and love for the professional development of municipal clerks.  The Texas Municipal Clerks Certification Program (TMCCP) began in 1967 at the University of North Texas from a study initiated by the Association of City Clerks and Secretaries of Texas (now Texas Municipal Clerks Association, Inc.).  Dr. Snay was appointed Executive Director of TMCCP and TMCA, Inc. in 1994 and Education Director in 2007.

Dr. Snay devoted countless hours grading homework and tests.  She was a mentor to TMCCP enrollees; from the new enrollee who might be uncertain of their ability to complete college level courses, to the more seasoned clerks whom she encouraged to take leadership roles in TMCA.  Dr. Snay's contributions are evident in the program's outstanding curriculum.

Dr. Snay was recognized for her leadership role and honored with the International Institute Director's Award of Excellence from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks in 2000.  In 2008, the TMCA Executive Board established the "Dr. Joyce Snay Scholarship" in her honor.  In 2013 Dr. Joyce Snay retired as the Education Director after 20 years of dedicated service. During her tenure, 461 municipal clerks attained the coveted Texas Registered Municipal Clerk designation.

Meeting Reservations

Members we need your help!

In order to be able to provide food for all that attend our monthly meetings, we need to know who will be attending, so please let us know your intentions by the RSVP date.  Deadlines are included in the invitation, and on the meeting webpage.

The best way to take care of this is to plan to attend all of the meetings and RSVP when you receive the invite!

Thank you for your cooperation!

Calendar Wheels
These wheels are an excellent tool for counting deadlines with ease and precision.  They are great for calendaring events/tasks associated with elections, requests for public information, budget, public hearings, legal notices, etc.

The calendar wheels will be available at the monthly meetings for $5.00 each. Monies raised from the sale of the calendar wheels will benefit the Alyce Deering Scholarship Fund. The calendar wheels come in two colors-purple and green.

If you are not at a monthly meeting, and would like to purchase a calendar wheel, please contact Monica Solko at 817.427.6062 or via e-mail msolko@nrhtx.com.
