Greetings NTMCA Members!
Can you believe it's August?! Summer vacations are winding down. College students are moving into dorms. Youngsters are beginning a new school year. What an exciting time! I love the 'newness' of this season of life. Everyone is moving forward and striving to accomplish new goals. I wish you all a smooth transition and joyful month!
July Meeting
Many thanks to Kim Sutter for securing the lovely Texas Star Golf Course & Conference Center for our meeting. We all love the views, the food, and the hospitality of our hosts. The meeting was a big hit with our guest speakers, Dr Holt and Dr Benavides of the University of North Texas. Their topic, Cultivating Confidence & Presence in the Workplace, resonated with all of us. Whether you're a new supervisor, have been one for a short while or for most of your career, the helpful insights provided will make you a better employee and leader. We all need reminders of how our words, tone, and body language say more about us than what we intend sometimes.
Dr Benavides, with the help of a few members, amused us all with his
demonstration of 'personal space invasion' and dominance. Dr Holt spoke about the difference between 'presence' and 'being present'. To do our jobs adequately and to be responsive to our elected officials and residents, we need to remain constant, present, and engaged. In our roles as municipal clerks, we are expected to be the face of the city. Be sure that face is strong yet compassionate, assertive but mindful, and serving but not submissive. We thank our speakers for their time and engaging presentation.
Fiscal Year 16-17 / Fiscal Year 17-18
With only two more meetings to go, the Board is wrapping up another eventful year. We appreciate each and every one of our committee volunteers, host cities, supporters, and members. We are working with the Budget Committee to finalize next year's budget, which will be up for vote in September.
Please consider volunteering for FY 17-18. President-Elect Sheila Morales will be looking for volunteers to continue providing excellent service to our members. Please contact her with questions about how to serve. First order of business will be to begin the annual membership drive and registration process. Please submit your application and membership dues during the first few weeks of October. Thank you.
Next Meeting On September 21st
Our next meeting will be held on September 21st in Joshua. We look forward to visiting this new member city. Please join us to show your support. Our guest speaker, Daniel Rosser from Agent IT, will be presenting 'Cyber Crime and Backup Solutions'. At this meeting we will be voting on proposed By-Laws changes and the Proposed FY17-18 Budget, as well as administering the Oaths of Office to the FY17-18 Board Members.
As always, thank you all for your support and continued service to our organization and each other!
Respectfully Yours, Carol Borges, President
