This Sunday In Worship From Pastor Jill

Halloween decorations and even Christmas decorations are taking over the stores, but Thanksgiving is still coming. With all of the chaos of the world, where is the gratitude? Where is the hope? We will wrestle with these questions this Sunday. We will also welcome new members to the North Church family!

Stewardship

Show Your Support for the Work

Of North's Ministries Teams

With Your 2027 Pledge

Our Faith in Action video shows how North Church creates meaningful connections and sustains physical and spiritual needs. An important part of our ministry is bringing people to Christ, deepening their faith, and giving praise through worship, music, creation care, and the arts.

Last Sunday we heard about the impact of the Discipleship and Formation Team and the Worship and Arts Team. We learned that our Discipleship and Formation Team provides meaningful opportunities for learning and fellowship, from Bible studies to small-group gatherings, taking place on Sunday mornings, weeknight evenings, and beyond. We learned how our Worship and Arts Team assists the pastoral staff to amplify themes and leads us to delight in God through music, visual arts, and the worship experience. Click here to watch the replay during the service from these team leaders.

As you prepare for Stewardship Sunday on Oct. 25, please prayerfully consider God’s purpose for you and for the ministries of North Church.

Revelation Bible Study Continues Tonight

The book of Revelation is perhaps the strangest book in the Bible, and it has been subject to even stranger interpretations. Join Pastor Darren for a four-week exploration of its original meaning and how it has been understood over the centuries in "Revelation Uncovered: A Bible Study of the Book of Revelation." The class will meet on Wednesdays from 6:30-8 p.m. in the conference room through Oct. 28. A study guide will be provided to participants. RSVPs are required. A Zoom option will be available upon request by a minimum of three participants.

Mission and Outreach

Call Is Out for Volunteers, Trunks, Candy, Books, and Coats

This year Trunk or Treat will be held on Sunday, Oct. 25 from 4-6 p.m. in North's parking lot.

We are looking for up to 20 trunks (cars), and lots of people to volunteer. We will serve hot dogs and chips and have music, lots of costumes, hand out candy, books, and coats, and even have a photo section. We need volunteers to staff the trunks (or tables if we go inside due to rain), to help serve the food, and to staff the welcome table.

We are collecting individually wrapped candy, children’s and youth books, and gently used or new adult-size coats to hand out. Please bring a bag or two of candy to help ensure that the many children who attend will have treats. There is a grey bin in the west entry for donations and a table there to sign up, ask questions, etc. You can also volunteer or ask questions by contacting Lydia Shaw.

Pop-Up Clothing Giveaway Is Set for Saturday, Oct. 24

The Sophia Sunday school class is hosting a pop-up clothing giveaway for our Bread and Bowl patrons. The one-day event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the west entry.

Everyone is invited to participate: Donate your gently used and laundered fall/winter clothes and socks (men's and women's) or new packaged underwear or socks. The drop-off area will be the west entry drive-through starting at 9:30 a.m. Volunteers are welcome and can help set up, collect, and sort donations, assist patrons, and pack leftovers.

Please note: We are not collecting and storing the clothing, and donations will be collected only on Oct. 24. Items not selected by Bread and Bowl patrons will be taken to a local clothing pantry that afternoon.

Contact Linda Casey if you have questions.

United Women in Faith (UWFaith)

Thanks for Support of Sunday Supper

Thanks to everyone who supported our United Women in Faith by attending the Sunday Supper last Sunday in Fellowship Hall. Besides enjoying the food, we loved the fellowship of our members! Proceeds will go to UWFaith mission work.

Pie and Soup Mix Orders Will Be Taken Next Two Sundays

Orders for holiday pies will begin this Sunday, Oct. 18, and continue the following Sunday, Oct. 25, from 9 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. in the west entry. Online orders can be made by email.

Pies cost $11 each. Flavors include sugar cream, pecan, peanut butter, German chocolate, pumpkin, pumpkin spice, and coconut cream. The pies will be available to be picked up on Sunday, Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. in the west entry. The pies will be perfect to add to your Thanksgiving feasts, or they can be frozen to eat later. This will be your last chance to stock up on Wick's pies, as we will no longer have access to a large freezer to store them.

Fall soup mix sales are underway. Soup mix is only $10 for a jar or a bag. It makes an excellent gift, and it's also great to have in your pantry for an easy and delicious dinner.

Your purchases allow us to support local, national, and international missions for women and children.

Women of Lydia to Meet Oct. 27

Women of Lydia will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at North at 7 p.m. Sue Bassett will host us and Jacqueline Leonard will present our program.

Green Team

Proper Clothing Care Helps The Environment

Only 35 percent of consumers in the United States read the labels on their clothes before washing them. Looking after our clothes and keeping them in circulation longer is one of the most sustainable (and cheapest) ways to cut down the negative impacts of the global fashion industry. So try the following to keep your clothes in top condition:

  • Note the recommended wash temperature.
  • Cold or hand wash if label says delicate.
  • Tumble dry shortest time possible.
  • If it says dry clean only, find an eco-dry cleaner.

Green Voters Guide Is Available

The non-partisan volunteer group Voters for a Green Indiana, in partnership with Earth Charter Indiana, has released its Green Voters Guide for the 2026 general election. It covers Indiana congressional races and select Indiana State House and Senate races. It provides research on voting records and candidate views related to utility affordability, data centers, renewable energy, and the environment. (We recommend downloading it rather than printing it, as it is 65 pages long.)

Shepherd's Center

Great Decisions Series Starts Oct. 21

The Shepherd's Center activities on Wednesday, Oct. 21 will get underway at 10 a.m. when Stephanie York leads devotions and jewelry crafts in room 007 while Bob Kirk moderates a discussion of the news in the youth room. The Great Decisions series begins at 11 a.m. when Charles Hanson, MSEE, University of Wisconsin Madison, retired, speaks on "How Christian Are Christian Nationalists?" in Fellowship Hall. Lunch will follow there at noon. At 1 p.m. the Shepherd's Singers will rehearse with Sean Baker in the choir room.

Please like and follow the Mid-North Shepherd's Center's Facebook page to stay up to date on its news.

Sunday Worship: 8:30 and 11 a.m.; 11 a.m. service is also livestreamed on NorthChurchIndy.com.
