October Board Meeting Highlights

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

All schools presented their Single Plan for Student Achievement either at the October 4 or 20 Board Meeting.  Schools operating programs funded through the Consolidated Application must submit a formal Single Plan for Student Achievement  annually to the Board of Trustees for approval. The Board of Trustees approved all the school plans and they are listed below the Presentations and Recognitions.  
SCHOOL PRESENTATIONS 
At the October 4 Board meeting, Loma Verde students described the  I Am Program as a social and emotional program to promote a positive self-image. Seven (7) fifth grade students shared how the program helps them feel more confident.  In addition, a former Loma Verde student now Novato High student shared that she has integrated parts of the program with some of the Novato High sports teams to build positive self-images.

Four students from the San Marin Speech & Debate Club presented a short debate on cells phones in the classroom as a demonstration of their club to the Board of Trustees at their October 18 meeting.  This club is student driven and independently funded with about 40 students who meet at lunch and sometimes on weekends to prepare for tournaments.  

RECOGNITIONS    
    
Last year, Martin Ries, Lynwood student, took first place in the Native Sons of the Golden West Essay Contest and was recognized at the October 4 board meeting for his accomplishment.

Parker Diener, Sinaloa 6th Grader, was recognized at the October 18 board meeting for his book, “Chasing Aliens in My Backyard” that was recently self-published.  Parker began the book when he was in the second grade at San Ramon Elementary School.
