Religious Education Help Wanted:
Paid and Volunteer
Job opportunity: Work with our fabulous kids! As we transition to indoor RE once children ages 5-11 are able to be vaccinated, we seek to hire two creative, flexible, dedicated people to join our Religious Education team starting December 5. These roles will support the Director of Religious Education and a group of fabulous adult volunteers in providing consistent, compassionate adult presence for our children during Sunday morning Religious Education sessions. Previous work or volunteer experience in formal (preschool, day care, K-12 school) or informal (camps, RE, museums, rec centers, etc.) education settings is required. Work hours from 9:30 AM to noon Sundays, with one Sunday off approximately every 4-6 weeks. Pay starts at $15/hr, with prep time also compensated. Proof of vaccination and background check required. Please contact Jen Aultman at jaultman@nuuc.org for more information. (NUUC folks: Please forward this announcement to anyone you think might be interested/qualified).
Help build the next generation of UUs by volunteering with our Zoom Youth Group from the comfort of your couch! On the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Wednesdays of each month at 7 PM, NUUC Youth join with youth from the Tennessee Valley UU Congregation and the James Reeb UU Congregation from Madison, WI for fun, spiritual growth, and social action. We are looking for adult volunteers (must background check) to take a supporting role as the assistant leader once every 3-6 weeks. Please consider making this small investment in time and effort to support our middle and high school youth through these challenging times! Please contact Jen Aultman at jaultman@nuuc.org to apply or if interested in learning more.

Urgent Call for Action on House Bill 109
|
Dear Faith Community Friend,
I want to offer a personal plea to you to share the information below with your network.
The Fourth House Hearing and Vote for HB 109 - the anti-protest bill - is this coming Thursday, Nov 4 at 10 in Room 121 at the Statehouse..
The Ohio ACLU finds it very troubling and their analyst writes: "In 13 years of full-time lobbying of the OGA and 23 total years with the ACLU of Ohio, I can say, with no exaggeration, HB 109 is easily the most concerning free speech bill I can recall because of its extremely wide impact, its broad and vague language, and the severe penalties."
Under current Ohio law, a very small incident can cause a march, parade or rally to be arbitrarily declared to be a 'riot".
And when an event becomes a 'riot' under HB 109, then organizations who supported or helped organize or even advertised the event can be charged, fined, and even dissolved for "Corrupt Activity."
- Imagine if Equality Ohio were to be dissolved because there was a minor fight at a Pride Parade.
- Or the Sierra Club heavily fined because someone sprayed chalk on a sidewalk at the Statehouse.
- Or UUJO - or your congregation - charged and bankrupted because it passed out water to marchers for Black Lives on a hot summer day.
These could all happen under HB 109.
Please share this with your network. We need lots of people at the hearing this Thursday, 10 am, Room 121 to show that the faith community cares about our First Amendment rights.
We will provide specially marked masks for the Silent Witness event. And we ask clergy to wear collars/stoles/clergy garb if possible.
With Hope For the Future
Rev Joan Van Becelaere
