February 2017 Newsletter
President's Message
Luke J. Adamo, MAI
Hello and Welcome to the first newsletter of the year.

2016 presented challenges in our national and local climate in several different aspects. Fortunately, the real estate market in Nevada has continued to improve and hopefully this will translate into positive work production for all our members.

Last year's Las Vegas Market Symposium continued its success with another outstanding performance. Moving forward in 2017, the Chapter is planning to create additional programming and networking opportunities. We will attempt to work with other local real estate organizations to bring together different aspects of our community and provide a more entertaining form of education. Please keep tabs on our Chapter website for our current and future educational offerings and events, including a possible panel-type program for the fall of 2017 in Northern Nevada. Also, if you would like to get involved or have any new ideas to stimulate Chapter involvement, please feel free let me know.

A few issues that have been recently discussed by the Nevada Chapter Board of Directors include a new Chapter Financial Management and Administration Policy, the current 45-Day notice materials and a request to support a possible change in the bylaws of the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors (GLVAR).
NVAI Chapter Board Actions
The NVAI board expressed concern with the implementation of the new financial policy. In mid-December, I sent a letter to the Appraisal Institute National Board communicating our board's disapproval of the policy. Due to opposition and concern from many chapters and members, the AI National Board voted on January 10th to suspend implementation until a later date.

More recently, the NVAI board voted to submit correspondence to the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors (GLVAR) requesting a possible change in their regulations relative to their membership of Nevada registered interns.

Proposed Amendments to AI Regulations
The Appraisal Institute National Board of Directors will be meeting next week to vote on proposed amendments to AI Regulations 1, 2 and 3.  One of the proposed amendments relates to a change in the college degree requirement for certified appraisers seeking SRA and MAI Designations.  The notice in its entirety can be accessed by logging into your AI account.  I encourage you to read the notice and if you have an opinion, please send an email to: 45daynotice@appraisalinstitute.org .

I look forward to serving the Nevada Chapter and want to thank all the members who have volunteered to serve alongside me and who sacrificed their time to benefit your Chapter. I consider this as a high point in my career and appreciate the trust you have placed in me. We have a strong chapter, which is filled with quality people and quality appraisers. In addition, a special thank you goes to Tina Anderson, our Executive Director, who continues to maintain the operations of this Chapter and is a critical component of our viability.

Thank you again for giving me this honor and I look forward to serving you.
