November 2020

President's Message
Eric J. Anderson, MAI

Welcome to Fall, 2020. As the leaves and weather change, I am reminded of an important quote by an anonymous author: “Autumn shows us how beautiful it is to let things go.” As we have all learned to navigate the world with an entirely new set of Covid rules, many of us have had to let go of our normal routines. The Appraisal Institute (AI) was forced to cancel many of our normal appraisal events including classes, chapter lunches, social gatherings, and the annual Symposium. None the less, the important work of appraisers has continued and our ability as individuals and professionals to let go and adapt to change has allowed us to navigate these unprecedented times.

As the economy has reopened, the work of appraisers has become even more important and, in some areas, more challenging. Chapter leadership and the National Board have worked diligently throughout the year to continue to support our members in various ways that would allow them to achieve professional growth and their educational goals.
AI has received approval from the Nevada Real Estate Division to allow virtual education until the end
of 2021. The Business Practices and Ethics and the Spotlight classes in June, were virtual.

Our next education program will be the Aerial Inspections for Real Estate seminar on December 8th. This is a 3-hour seminar and is approved for real estate and appraisal continuing education.

The AI Nevada Chapter, through diligent efforts of its officers and members, was able to maintain a balanced budget for 2020. In prior years, we have relied heavily on the annual Symposium as a revenue stream. This year, we have managed costs and reduced expenses which has allowed us to be “in the black”.

On a final note, our chapter election was held in July. I am proud to welcome our new AI Nevada Chapter Officers led by our incoming 2021 President, Hazel Johnson, SRA, AI-RRS. I would like to end by wishing you all a speedy end to this crazy year and a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season.

Eric Anderson, MAI
2020 Nevada Chapter President
