President's Message
Nicholas W. Bennett, MAI
I hope you all had a fantastic summer and were able to escape the scorching heat! As the monsoons wane and summer humidity makes way for pumpkins, flannel and falling leaves, I would like to update you on your Nevada Chapter of the Appraisal Institute.
First, I am greatly honored to be selected to be President of the Nevada chapter for the upcoming 2023 year. It is with great care that I hope to steer our chapter forward to accomplish several goals. These include making the Las Vegas Market Symposium the must-attend event of the year for our members; giving back to our community with our CALV NPHY partnership; and, establishing a great foundation for future relationship and mentorship with UNLV.
Appraisal Institute Annual Conference
This year’s Appraisal Institute Annual Conference was held at the beginning of August at the Bellagio Hotel Casino. In addition to the Joint Region Meeting, two days of educational panels was also offered. The Regional Meeting included addresses from the board regarding the current state of AI and the future direction for our organization. We then broke into our individual Region VII meeting, with updates from each chapter, 45 Day Notice issues and future educational offerings for our members.
It was great to see several of our local members attending the educational panels. These panels give attendees a chance to hear from a broad spectrum on the current state of our industry, best practices and future opportunities. Among the topics we discussed were the ongoing Appraiser Diversity Initiative, appraisal bias, right-of-way appraisals and expert witness topics. If you haven’t attended the Annual Conference, I highly recommend it.
Not only do you gain knowledge and perspectives outside your own, but it also gives you the opportunity to meet other appraisers and the Appraisal Institute national leaders. Growing your network is always helpful in this challenging real estate environment!
