Meet NVCT's New Board Chair, Ranjit Singh

Northern Virginia Conservation Trust is proud to announce its newly elected board chair, Ranjit Singh. The avid hiker, kayaker, and angler is also a professor of political science and international affairs at the University of Mary Washington. Ranjit grew up in Stafford County, and his growing concern for diminishing local nature is what set him on the path to conservation and joining NVCT. Here, we ask Ranjit about his love for nature, his new role as board chair, and what he envisions for the organization's bright future.

Momentum Gaining In Efforts To Preserve River Farm
So much is happening on the campaign to save River Farm. NVCT and NOVA Parks have increased our offer to the American Horticultural Society (AHS) to buy the property.

Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring joined our executive director along with champions in the state legislature and on the Fairfax County board for a press conference to discuss River Farm’s future this past Wednesday. AHS’ board is now split on whether to sell the property at all as half of their leadership would like to take the property off the market.

NVCT has worked incredibly hard in an unprecedented regional partnership to protect this special place, and we hope those efforts are soon to be successful.

NVCT Kayak Cleanup

On June 13, 2021, help us clean up the Hunting Creek watershed adjacent to Interstate 495! The trash and debris that pile in from the Potomac River and Cameron Run harms the environment and hinders outdoor activity around the area. We hope you'll jump in a kayak or canoe and join us for our annual cleanup. Kayak rentals are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

They'll be two sessions from 10 am - noon and 11 am - 1 pm. Select a time and register at the link below.

NVCT and Partners Remove Harmful Invasive Plants from Little Hunting Creek Preserve in Fairfax Count

The Northern Virginia Conservation Trust (NVCT) partnered with Friends of Little Hunting Creek (FOLHC) and the Stratford Landing Citizens Association (SLCA) to remove non-native invasive plants from NVCT's 2-acre Little Hunting Creek Preserve in Fairfax County on Stockton Parkway.
