Our annual gala was a smashing success! The night began with drinks and mingling on the waterfront, then moving indoors once the sun went down for the unveiling of our new Strategic Plan, charting an ambitious course for the future of land preservation in Northern Virginia. Thanks to your incredible generosity, we met our $40,000 matching challenge! Your support helps us protect the places that matter most. Here's to the next chapter, together.
We are excited about what the future holds for NVCT, and as our organizational year comes to a close, we want to thank everyone who has supported us this year and was a part of making our gala a night to remember. Rich Bliss Award
Kathy Baker
The Rich Bliss Award, named after NVCT’s founder, celebrates those whose vision and tenacity have shaped a better future for Northern Virginia. We honored Kathy Baker with the Rich Bliss Award for her remarkable 37-year legacy of environmental service in Stafford County. Kathy’s advocacy and partnership have been instrumental in protecting key places like Crow’s Nest Natural Area and preserving open space for generations to come!

Peggy Stevens Award
Porto Vecchio Waterfront Committee
The Peggy Stevens Award, named for NVCT’s former Executive Director, recognizes a conservation landowner whose exemplary land stewardship benefits both people and wildlife. The Peggy Stevens Award was presented to the Porto Vecchio Waterfront Committee for their years of dedicated care along Hunting Creek, including the Waggaman property. Their partnership has led to the removal of thousands of pounds of trash from the Potomac over eight years of cleanups.

Each summer, the forests of Northern Virginia become a haven for migratory birds, but their songs are fading. Bird populations continue to decline in the U.S. NVCT is doing our part to help monitor the health of bird populations on our protected properties by taking part in fun community science efforts!

Hiss-teria Averted: Staying Safe Around Snakes
Ready to overcome your fear of snakes? Snakes often get a bad rap, but we share this land with them and they have important roles in their respective environments. In this webinar we will learn how to properly identify, handle and avoid unpleasant interactions with native snake of Virginia! Don't worry, this session is completely virtual, so you wont have to test your limits too much!

The Eastern Meadowlark is a striking grassland bird known for its bright yellow chest marked with a bold black “V” and its clear, flute-like song that carries across open fields. In Northern Virginia, meadowlarks can still be spotted in rural areas like Loudoun County, Manassas National Battlefield, and preserved meadows. These birds nest on the ground, hidden in tall grasses, and rely on large, undisturbed fields to breed successfully.
