NVCT NEWS

Spring into Action!

After a long winter, spring has finally arrived and NVCT volunteers are helping with some spring cleaning! All throughout March we held weekly invasive pulls at our Little Hunting Creek Preserve in Alexandria. Volunteers have helped clear massive amounts of invasive English ivy; when we first started this work, every tree on the property was strangled by ivy! Now, we have a few patches that we have continued to tackle with our volunteers and volunteers from our partners, Friends of Little Hunting Creek!

While pulling invasive plants helps prepare the landscape for new growth, cleaning up trash is another way our volunteers have made room for nature to thrive this spring! NVCT and Porto Vecchio Water Committee volunteers participated in a joint trash cleanup this past weekend along the banks of Hunting Creek, where NVCT also has a nature preserve. We collected total bags of trash!

Conservation Explored

Arlington at Stake

Conservation work is collaborative, and our partnerships with counties make conservation in a county easier for us and landowners. County funding supports sustainable land use that benefits everyone.

Local governments have begun to feel the trickle-down of larger funding cuts in our government, and unfortunately, NVCT was placed on the chopping block for Arlington County funding. You can read more to learn about our partnership with Arlington and what the future may hold for our work in the county if we are cut.
