NVTA's FY2026–2031 Six Year Program

Public Comment Period Closed on May 17

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback and participated in the public hearing for NVTA's FY2026-2031 Six Year Program. In total, NVTA received 700 comments regarding the 27 regional transportation projects under funding consideration. The full public comment summary will be presented to the Authority during the June business meeting on June 11, and also posted online.


Next steps: NVTA staff will develop and present project recommendations to three NVTA committees: the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), the Planning Coordination Advisory Committee (PCAC), and the Planning and Programming Committee (PPC). The committees will then provide final recommendations before they are presented to the Authority.

Minnieville Road &

Prince William Parkway Interchange Groundbreaking

On May 5, NVTA joined Prince William County and partners to celebrate the start of construction on the new Minnieville Road and Prince William Parkway Interchange. With $80 million in NVTA Local Distribution Funds, this project will help address traffic congestion today while building the capacity necessary to support the community’s future growth and connectivity for years to come. We're so excited to see this project move forward! 

Legislative & Multimodal Transportation Breakfast

On May 13, NVTA CEO Monica Backmon joined a panel discussion with Virginia Sens. Jennifer Boysko and Kannan Srinivasan and Del. Atoosa Reaser, moderated by Adam Tuss, NBC4. The Legislative and Multimodal Transportation Breakfast discussion was hosted by the Dulles Area Transportation Association (DATA) and the Committee for Dulles. CTB Presentation

On May 19, Ms. Backmon presented to the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) in Alexandria. She discussed NVTA's impact, investments in multimodal transportation solutions, partnerships across the Commonwealth and more. Click the link below to watch a recording of the full CTB meeting.

Town of Dumfries

State of the Town Address 

On May 28, Ms. Backmon introduced Derrick R. Wood, Mayor, Town of Dumfries, ahead of his State of the Town Address. Mayor Wood highlighted the Town’s recent accomplishments and shared his vision for the future. Phyllis Randall, Chair, NVTA and the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, also attended the event and joined local leaders in recognizing the Town’s continued progress.

Bike to Work Day

Bike to Work Day 2026 was a success! On May 15, NVTA staff connected with commuters at the Ballston Pit Stop at Welburn Square, sharing information about NVTA funded projects and discussing how transportation investments are helping improve mobility across the region. During Bike to Work Day, we asked Northern Virginia residents one simple question: why do you bike? From staying active to enjoying more time outdoors, the community had plenty to say - watch below!▶️

June InNoVAtion Lunch and Learn

Mark your calendar for June 10 at 12:00 p.m.! Our next InNoVAtion Lunch and Learn, Connecting With Riders Through Mobile Apps, explores how Arlington's new microtransit service, MICRO, and OmniRide's partnership with the Transit app, are changing how riders connect with transit.

A New Face at NVTA

Introducing NVTA's new Executive Assistant to the CEO, Amila Tola!


Background:

Amila was raised in Virginia and brings a strong background in communications and administration, providing high-level operational support to C-suite executives across government and corporate finance sectors. She earned her bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Multimedia Journalism from Virginia Tech and recently completed her master’s degree in Public Relations and Corporate Communications at Georgetown University.


What She's Excited About:

Amila is eager to deepen her knowledge of NVTA-funded projects across a variety of domains.


Fun Facts:

Born in Tirana, Albania, Amila is fluent in three languages, including Albanian and French. She developed a love for the arts at an early age, with oil painting becoming a longtime creative passion and favorite pastime.
