◈ Celebrating Women's History Month◈

This Women's History Month, we proudly recognize the women of NVTA whose dedication, leadership and expertise help plan, communicate and advance our vision for Northern Virginia. Their efforts play a crucial role in shaping NVTA into what it is today. We are grateful for their hard work and commitment. Thank you for all that you do!

◈ NVTA Around the Region ◈

Women Rise Panel

On March 27th, NVTA CEO Monica Backmon joined a panel of women leaders in transportation and infrastructure. Panelists included Jennifer Mitchell, EVP, Strategy and Planning, Amtrak; and Grey Callaham, Senior VP, Legal, Clark Construction. The panel was moderated by Amanda Baxter, Group Executive, North America and Corporate Development, Atlas Arteria. Panelists provided uplifting career advice to a diverse group of women who are part of the Women Rise group organized by Dalia Palchik, Fairfax County Providence District Supervisor.

Town of Dumfries

Council Meeting

On March 18th, Ms. Backmon spoke during the Dumfries Town Council meeting, highlighting NVTA's vision, impact and direct investments in the town, as well as supporting projects in Prince William County. NVTA has allocated nearly $141 million to the Town Of Dumfries through Regional and Local Funds. These investments improve connectivity and infrastructure, supporting long-term growth and mobility across the region.

◈Building Momentum with BRT◈

For the past several months, NVTA has been developing a blueprint for a regionally connected Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system to reduce congestion by providing fast, frequent and reliable transit service. NVTA is confident BRT is the future of public transit!

Soon, NVTA will publish BRT route profiles and an Action Plan, seeking input from the community to understand what BRT routes should be prioritized for future funding cycles. Input can be provided through an online feedback form launching in April. The public will also have an opportunity to view the BRT system map and speak to NVTA staff in-person during a series of pop-up events that will continue into mid-May. More details will be available soon.
