Referee Registration / Renewal for 2021
  • U.S. Soccer requires that you must be a minimum of 13 years old to become a referee
  • Referees MUST use USSF Learning Center for registration 
  • $20 discount for 2020 registered referees
  • Background check required for referees over 18 ($30 for 2 years)
  • No in-person entry level referees courses due to COVID (virtual field sessions)
  • Virtual field season on 3rd Thu of month (Nov 19, Dec 17, Jan 21)

REGISTRATION
STEP 1: SIGN UP IN THE LEARNING CENTER
  1. Navigate to https://learning.ussoccer.com/referee/courses/available/6/details/2199
  2. Select “Sign Up” in the upper right corner
  3. Enter your information

STEP 2: COMPLETE THE BACKGROUND CHECK (18+)
During the certification process outlined below, you will be prompted to complete a background check. This can take up to ten days to process and MUST be completed before taking the course, so please complete this immediately upon sign up. These background checks will only need to be completed every other year. (Background checks from other organizations like CalNorth, US Club, etc. will not qualify.)

STEP 3: TAKE THE COURSE
  1. Select “Courses” on the top navigation bar: The system will automatically load the Available Courses menu upon arrival.
  2. In the menu on the left side of the screen, select Grassroots – First-Time Referees
  3. Click “Go to Course List“
  4. Scroll to find “Grassroots Entry Level Course with Digital Field Session” (last item on last page)
  5. After completing the background check, registration, and payment, complete the online training and test requirements (Assignments Tab) ** (see below detail)
  6. Sign up and attend the Virtual Field Session HERE.
  7. Our badge will be given to you upon completion of the field session.
Online Training and Test Requirements (Assignments Tab) **

  • Introduction to Safe and Healthy Playing Environments
  • SafeSport (if 18 years or older)
  • Online Grassroots Referee Course Module
  • First Time Grassroots Referee Quiz
  • U.S. Soccer Federation Gold Standard NCSI Background Check (if 18 years or older)

ALL assignments must be completed before you participate in the digital field session.  
YOU MUST PREREGISTER AND HAVE ALL ASSIGNMENTS DONE BY 5pm THE DAY OF THE DIGITAL FIELD SESSION.  
This will take some planning so do not procrastinate.
