Women in STEM Festival
On March 14, 2019, Iowa Lakes Community College hosted the third annual Women in STEM Festival at the Estherville Campus. Graettinger-Terril, Spirit Lakes, Emmetsburg, Harris-Lake Park, and Spencer middle school girls attended. The girls participated in several sessions including driving a robot from the State Fire Marshal organization, working on the engineering design process with Major Jen Williams, Remotely Piloted Aircraft pilot for the Air National Guard, take a virtual reality tour of a manufacturing plant, or dissecting frogs with Brian Bristow, biology instructor at ILCC. What a great experience for these young ladies to get a taste of the types of STEM careers that are waiting for them! |
Maker Day at Albert City-Truesdale
On March 15, 2019, NW STEM took part in the Maker Day at Albert City-Truesdale Elementary. Students used paper circuit materials from the Making STEM Connections Scale-Up cart to make St. Patrick Day cards that lit up via LED lights and copper tape. Brenda Welch, NW STEM Advisory Board member also assisted with our session. Great day had by all!
