Happy first full week of March, NWACA family! 🌼

As we start to see a little more daylight and feel that shift toward spring, there’s a real sense of momentum in the air — and around here, that means one thing… ATE Seattle is just around the corner!

This season is all about growth, fresh ideas, and investing in ourselves and our teams. There is incredible value in stepping away from the day-to-day to gain training, sharpen our skills, and reconnect with our NWACA community.

We are truly grateful for each of you and the commitment you make to learning, leading, and being part of something bigger. Thank you for being the heart of NWACA.

Our Education Spotlight is Aaron Klesick,

ASE Master Certified automotive professional

at Skagit Valley College

1.     What inspired you to teach future technicians?

While a student at Skagit Valley College, doing a running start, I was inspired by the instructors and learned so much that I knew before I graduated, I wanted to come back and teach. I told the Department Chair, Scott Hall when I graduated, I was going to come back and take his job when he retired, and sure enough, that's what happened. Being an instructor is such a privilege and responsibility that I do not take lightly. Every day that I get to help change the future of our industry is a great day.

2.     What makes your program unique?

We have taught electric and hybrid vehicles for over 15 years in our program, and we have recently expanded our courses in that area. We have a 10-credit industry-leading EV course built into our curriculum that all students must graduate with. Along with this, we have a full machine shop and are excited to begin offering courses on engine machining and building.

3.     Advice for shop owners considering entry-level hires?

I always tell shops that the best students get hired early. Don't be afraid to hire a first-year student in the program and help mentor them from day one. Because the best students will have jobs by the time they graduate. We don't normally have any second-year students looking for jobs, because they all start during year one. We also have seen time and time again that students who are working from year one in the program are further advanced than students who wait until year two to get a job.

Thank you for supporting students and our industry!
