2024 Western Slope Rural Philanthropy Days Conference

June 5-7 in Fruita, CO | Register here. This unique conference provides a forum for quality professional development opportunities close to home as well as networking with other community leaders in the region and relationship building opportunities with statewide funders. RPD® not only creates the space to educate each other on regional needs but also works towards collaboratively addressing community-wide issues in the region. This opportunity only occurs once every four years in the Western Slope region which is composed of Delta, Eagle, Garfield, Mesa, and Pitkin counties.


2024 Steamboat Springs Chamber Economic Summit

The Economic Summit is your opportunity to quickly gain insights into today’s economy, explore our unique challenges, and discover opportunities to enhance our economy, community and culture. This year, the Summit will feature keynote speaker Nathan Perry, who has conducted several regional economic studies in Colorado, and will offer economic insight, backed up with the numbers.


Permitting and Inspections, Learning Safe and Best Practices for Solar

June 6 | 10 AM - 12:30 PM | Register here. Offered by NADO. This training will review best practices for conducting field inspections for small solar PV systems, discuss the goals of inspection, including relevant codes and standards. Inspection staff will learn about the value of a solar inspection checklist and how to ensure systems are installed in accordance with plans and specifications. 


Basic Economic Development Course

The BEDC course provides a substantial introduction to the theory and fundamentals of comprehensive economic development. This course will feature live, interactive discussions with instructors & peers.


Colorado Municipal League Annual Conference

June 18-21 in Loveland, Colorado | Register here. CML's signature conference draws over 1,200 leaders throughout the state to share the latest information on accomplishments, growth, legislation, and policies that impact your municipality. 


Colorado Governors Tourism Conference

NWCCOG has a Regional Grants Navigator on staff to assist with identifying appropriate grant opportunities, reviewing grants prior to submission, or helping to gather letters of support. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Water Technical Assistance (WaterTA) Program

The WaterTA provides free hands-on support for communities to assess their water needs, identify potential solutions, and apply for federal funding to address their water challenges. The EPA is hosting an informational webinar May 22 about the program and available resources to help ensure every community has access to funding. 


State Opportunities


2025 Drinking Water & Wastewater State Revolving Fund Eligibility Survey

Deadline: June 30 | Complete the survey here.  Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. The survey identifies water, sewer, stormwater, and nonpoint source infrastructure improvement needs throughout the state. Completing the survey is the first step toward obtaining funding through SRF programs. CDPHE encourages all municipalities to participate. Surveys

must be completed and submitted no later than June 30. 


Colorado Energy Office: Grants, Incentives, and Programs

The Colorado Energy Office (CEO) offers a number of grants, incentives, and programming for Colorado municipal governments. Whether you’re looking to support safe and resilient building codes, streamline solar permitting processes, or bring more electric vehicle charging stations to your community, CEO has a program to support you. Current Opportunities:


Colorado Creates Grant

Deadline: May 29 | Details here. The Colorado Creates Grant helps organizations and communities create art and cultural activities through general operating support funding. Funds are distributed throughout Colorado with a focus on rural communities.


Middle-Income Housing Authority (MIHA) Applications

Applications accepted on a rolling basis | Details here. MIHA is a special purpose authority that is independent from the state, and OEDIT assists with administrative needs. MIHA has the power to issue bonds to finance affordable rental housing projects with AMIs generally between 80% and 120%, or 140% in rural resort areas. MIHA reopened for applications on March 8, 2024 and is currently accepting applications on a rolling basis.

 

CHFA Direct Effect Awards

Round 2: Open August 19 and closes Sept. 17 | Details here. CHFA is pleased to announce the dates for its 2024 Direct Effect Awards. Direct Effect Awards are an opportunity for CHFA to recognize and support Colorado nonprofits whose missions align with our work to strengthen Colorado by investing in affordable housing and community development. In 2024, CHFA is celebrating 50 years of strengthening Colorado. To help commemorate, CHFA will additionally award up to five $50,000 Direct Effect Awards in each round of 2024.

Union Pacific Foundation: Community Ties Giving Program

Deadline: May 31| Details here. Programs Improving Quality of Life in Railroad Communities. The Union Pacific Foundation’s Community Ties Giving Program aims to build safe, prosperous, vibrant, and inclusive communities where Union Pacific Railroad operates. Funding is provided for direct services and efforts that build the capacity of organizations focused on the following causes: safety, workforce development, community vitality, and environmental sustainability. Within each focus area, the aim is to support programs and organizations working to advance the diversity, equity, and inclusion of underrepresented populations.

New Laws Affecting Municipalities

The Colorado Municipal League has put together a great summary of new laws that will affect municipalities upon the conclusion of the Second Regular Session of the 74th Colorado General Assembly which wrapped up on May 8. Several new laws have an immediate impact on municipal interests; other bills await final action by Gov. Jared Polis and are not effective unless signed or become law without his signature. This summary can be found in the latest CML Newsletter.


Planning for Hazards Guide: Land Use Solutions for Colorado

Colorado Resiliency Office | Read the guide here. This guide describes general approaches for mitigating hazards through land use planning and the general legal and regulatory framework for planning for hazards in Colorado. It provides detailed, Colorado-specific information about how to assess a community’s risk of hazards and how to implement several land use planning tools and strategies for reducing a community’s risk.
