By Jolee MartinFloridaMakes Business Adviser

Hope all of you had an AMAZING Thanksgiving. I am filled with gratitude as I get to know you and look to 2023 as a year of training and focused engagements to accomplish your personal and business goals.

As 2022 comes to a close, WOW it has gone quickly, I am reminded of important opportunities, deadlines, and milestones.

  • Grant submissions for this quarter need to be in by mid-December. Would you benefit from Quick Response Training or Incumbent Worker Training Grants? Monies are available!
  • In May 2023, new DOD contracts will require some type of CMMC compliance. We do not yet know to what level or what documented evidence will be needed. Please PROACTIVELY prepare.
  • For those of you with a QMS certification, your registrar will expect to see cyber security precautions within your risk assessment steps moving forward. Plan appropriately.
  • Many “talent” options are becoming available if you are willing to think outside the box. The recent webinar was very informative. Are you in a position to take advantage of the Registered Apprentice Program?

Contact me to find out more. How can I assist you and your team? What support do you need from me? Let’s plan Q1 and exit this year ready for all that is available.

FloridaMakes and the Council are working to bring up to date content to you through webinars, in-person meetings, and a “Townhall” discussion. Stay tuned for these dates, and be sure to register.

As always, FloridaMakes is your partner in the community. Whether it is supply chain challenges, training and upleveling the team, driving improvement / sustainability, or just plain brainstorming, you can reach me at 636-288-8756 or via email at [email protected]. You can even schedule some time in my calendar for a quick chat by clicking here.  I can’t wait to chat with you!

850: Two-day Northwest Florida Economic Summit focuses on growth and opportunity

The Northwest Florida Leadership Forum, presented its first ever Northwest Florida Economic Summit in October at the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Convention Center. The event anticipated projects that will result from the $1.2 trillion federal infrastructure bill and the $715 billion federal transportation bill. The Economic Summit provided for one-on-one matchmaking discussions between business people and officials at local, state and federal agencies who are responsible for administering grants and awarding contracts.

Florida’s Great Northwest was created to encourage businesses to locate and expand their operations in the Florida Panhandle. The economic development organization represents 12 counties: Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton, Holmes, Washington, Bay, Jackson, Calhoun, Gulf, Liberty and Franklin. Keynote speaker and president and CEO of Florida’s Great Northwest, Jennifer Conoley, said economic expansion and diversification are its cheif aim, but the organization also has arms dedicated to advocacy and community collaboration. She pointed to regional assets including its talent ecosystem; a supportive financial environment; transportation infrastructure in the form of ports, airports and highways; and supportive business networks and communities.

The 12-county region can be expected to experience rapid growth in coming years. Citing figures from the Bureau of Economic & Business Research at the University of Florida, Conoley noted that the area’s population was projected to grow by 11.3 percent between 2021 and 2025 and by 51.3 percent by 2050.
