We did it!
Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to NWHPBA members for their dedication and hard work in helping Washington Initiative 2066 pass with 51.69% of the vote.
Your efforts have safeguarded the rights of Washington residents to choose natural gas for their homes and businesses, securing a balanced and reliable energy future.
In an article from the Washington State Standard, Greg Lane, the Building Industry Association of Washington's executive vice president, called the effort “truly inspiring.”
“Together, they have sent a thunderous message to policy makers at every level of government that natural gas service must be maintained as we address the energy demands in Washington state,” Lane said.
Despite its success at the ballot box, IP 2066 now may face legal challenges from our opponents who plan to sue to block its implementation. While we are hopeful that these challenges will not succeed, NWHPBA will actively monitor the legal process as things unfold. Your association remains committed to advocating for consumer energy choice and ensuring that the voice of Washington voters is upheld.
Thank You!
Thank you to everyone for their hard work, perseverance, votes, and money to make this happen. It will send shock waves throughout the country that even in our pretty blue state, people still want energy choice and the ability to have natural gas available for their appliances. It was a strong message that we can move to lower emissions and help the environment without leaving people in the cold and dark.
Hopefully, this will change the discussion back to one of emission reductions rather than simply “eliminating fossil fuels.” We can focus on biogas and hydrogen blending without worrying about infrastructure issues. It will ensure the availability of clean fuel appliances for backup systems and will help with manufacturing processes that need the efficiency of natural gas heat. In addition, the more efficient natural gas appliances can continue to safely heat people’s homes.
While we can never rest on our laurels in this world, with this victory we can help move the discussion in a way that makes sense and keeps business working!
