What a month! We would typically consider January to be one of the quieter times of year but that is not the case as we roar into 2020. We have some exciting news and plans to share:
We are also hiring for our seasonal crew members. This is a great opportunity to gain some experience in the conservation field. More information is online!
After more than six months of partner collaboration, we launched our new list of the "Top 12 Invasive Species" in northwest Michigan.
Our 2020 events are live! Check out the complete list on our website. You will spot some familiar events along with several new workshops throughout ISN's service area.
We look forward to sharing updates on these changes as they develop. As always, don't hesitate to contact ISN with any questions or to report a sighting.
Callery pear, a common ornamental tree, has been added to the "Top 12".
The Top 12 Invasive Species
in Northwest Michigan
2019 was a busy year for ISN and all of our partners but behind the scenes we were working on another big project - reprioritizing the terrestrial invasive plants in our region. As plant populations and management goals shift, it is important to evaluate what species can truly cause the most ecological harm - while also considering how to best tackle them.
This new list replaces the former "Top 20" and while many species remain the same, there are several new ones including callery pear and tree-of-heaven. To see all of the prioritized species please visit our website. Also check out our new lists for Early Detection and Response (EDR) species and a breakdown of plants by habitat type.
Thank you to all of our partners who contributed their invaluable knowledge to this process!
