TORONTO, June 6, 2011 - NXNE and Right To Play are pleased to announce the fifth annual "Put the Boot In" Charity Soccer Match, taking place on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at
Lamport Stadium in the heart of Liberty Village in Toronto. The annual full-field soccer match pits the rough-and-tumble "Rockers" against "the Rollers" (a roundup of the deadliest selection of media ringers and a handful of hangers-on...)
Team
Captain Brendan Canning (Broken Social Scene) is confident that his fresh-off-the-stage team of Rockers are up to the task. He's joined by
Nick Greaves (Most Serene Republic),
Matt Murphy (Flashing Lights),
Murray Foster (Great Big Sea),
Darrin Pfeiffer (Goldfinger),
Hayley Gene (Tuzo) and many other road-weary musicians who will vie for the Queen and Beaver Cup.
The Rollers team is
Captained by Olympic medallist Adam van Koeverden who is confident his team of ragtag media personalities are up to scruff for this year's match. The line-up includes Entertainment Tonight Canada's
Rick Campanelli, actor
Adam Fergus (Being Erica), host of The Score's
'The Footy Show'
James Sharman, award-winning CBC journalist
Tom Harrington, the Buffalo Sabres'
Steve Montador and journalists from the Toronto Standard, TCHAD, Bravo! the Globe and Mail, Panicmanual, DirectKickTV, among others.
The
Toronto FC will, as usual, send along a handful of trusty players as coaching staff for the afternoon to whip the bedraggled players into shape.
