Hong Kong SAR

25th Anniversary Celebration

Hong Kong Ballet Presents

Premiere of Romeo + Juliet in New York

Hong Kong Ballet took a full company of 70+ members with Artistic Director Septime Webre’s new Romeo + Juliet to New York. The performances in New York were especially curated to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong SAR and exclusively sponsored by the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

The Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York (HKETONY), Ms. Candy Nip, said she was proud to present to the US audience one of the finest and most international ballet companies in Asia. "The Hong Kong Ballet also represents the creativity, energy and diversity of our city. These brilliant artists are the cultural ambassadors of Hong Kong," she said.

Ms. Nip said, this US tour was particularly meaningful as it was the first overseas tour of the Hong Kong Ballet since the pandemic. It was also the grand finale of our series of celebration activities for the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

The First Filipina American to be Named

Miss USA and Miss Universe

R'Bonney Gabriel has made history as the first Filipina American to be named Miss Universe. "Filipinos are so happy. They are just over the moon about it," Gabriel said Monday of the reception to her groundbreaking win on "Good Morning America." "It's a huge win for the community and just representation. It's an honor."

“I think this will make Filipinos even more proud to be a Filipino. Whenever you see someone like you, whether that’s a culture or somebody that is in the same sports as you or has the same interest as you, you get excited and you want to embrace more of who you are. So, I am so excited for Filipinos to be shown in that light and continue to celebrate that,” she explained. Her father was born in the Philippines, and immigrated from Manila to Washington state at the age of 25. Congrats to the people of the Philippines and to the new Miss Universe 2022.
