Latest CDPAP News

What is happening with the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP)? New York has announced Georgia-based PPL to run the CDPAP for the 250,000 disabled people who rely on the program for their homecare and the nearly 375,000 Personal Assistants who help them live full, independent lives in their communities. We have seen data from Pennsylvania showing an over 50% drop in consumer enrollment in their homecare program. If this were to happen in New York, it could mean over 125,000 New Yorkers with disabilities going without needed care. Our press release highlights the horrors of the state going this route. The fate of the CDPAP is in the courts, with several lawsuits pending around the single FI and changes to the administrative reimbursement.

Webinar Series

On September 11 we hosted a webinar with the Office of New Americans. Cynthia Stewart and Rosa Montalvo Pachecco presented on their programs and services, along with telling us some very interesting facts about some of the most common languages spoken by new Americans. While you’re there you can learn more about our October webinar about the Technology-Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities (TRAID) Program on Thursday, October 17, 1-2:00 p.m. Our presenters are Melinda Dolezal,TRAID Director, Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs and April Diffee, TRAID Manager, Southern Adirondack Independent Living (SAIL) ASL and CART will be provided.

“WHO WINS” - Your Vote and the Electoral College: Panel discussion on the Electoral College vs. the National Public Vote, proudly hosted by the League of Women Voters and the Southern Tier Independence Center. Why did our nation's founders agree to the system of an Electoral College to elect the President of the United States? What is the Electoral College Act? What are the pros and cons of the Electoral College? Should our country change our system and use the National Popular Vote instead of the Electoral College? How might this happen? Learn the answers to these questions and more! Light refreshments will be served. This will be a hybrid presentation both in-person and on Zoom.

Check out STIC's event calendar this month with 3 events. STIC is hosting “Who Wins” – Your Vote and the Electoral College early in the month. Then later in the month join them at STIC’s Community Services Fair, happening at their office in Binghamton. Then wrapping up the busy month is a Trunk or Treat fundraiser.
