Meet Donna Hager, owner of Macan Deve Engineers, D.P.C, a certified Woman-owned Business Enterprise (WBE) providing engineering and architectural services specializing in energy efficiency and conservation, storm resiliency, design build, alternative project delivery, and Local Law 97 Building Carbon Intensity Limit Compliance.
After working for a large corporation for more than thirty years, Ms. Hager decided to open her own company and inspire young women to look at careers in the fields of engineering and architecture; occupations that historically have been predominately controlled by men.
Primary challenges for Ms. Hager, similar to most businesses, were access to capital, meeting project qualification requirements, and obtaining contracts. An additional challenge was becoming a validated vendor in the fields of engineering and architecture.
Ms. Hager received technical help from the NYC SBS APEX Accelerator for City, State, and Federal contracting opportunities and she secured loans/financing through the SBS Capital Access program. Selling to the government has helped keep her business stable and built the reputation of Macan Deve Engineers, D.P.C.
Macan Deve Engineers has won contracts as a subcontractor with the NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and the NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS). Examples of services provided include architectural planning, design, and construction administration services for the 154th Street Pumping Station, Quality Assurance/Quality Control review and report preparation, and assisting with assessments of systems and buildings.
