Spouses, Significant Others, and Guests Welcome!
Join us for a walk along the East River from Grand Central to lower Manhattan.
The walk is about 6 miles - approx. 2 1/2 hours plus time for lunch.
--GETTING THERE--
Take the 9:00 AM train from Saugatuck to Grand Central Terminal.
Meet on the platform in Saugatuck by the ticket machines
or find your own way to Grand Central.
Scheduled arrival at Grand Central Terminal is 10:14.
After a restroom stop, we'll meet by the clock to leave on the walk.
Please tell Warren if you will not be on the train; plan to arrive at the clock by 10:15.
--ABOUT THE WALK--
From Grand Central Terminal we will walk to the East River and 34th Street. Once at the East River we will follow the Greenway down to lower Manhattan. Along the way we will pass under and have excellent views of the Williamsburg, Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges, as well as views across the river to the Brooklyn Navy Yard and DUMBO. Once we reach lower Manhattan (about 1:00pm) we will have lunch either on historic Stone Street (the first paved street in NYC) or at Fraunces Tavern.
--RETURN TO CONNECTICUT--
Walk to the Bowling Green subway station and take the #4 or #5 train to Grand Central. Then Metro-North to Westport. It should be possible to take the 3:00 train back to Connecticut.
PLEASE RSVP so you can be alerted if a weather postponement (rain or excessive heat) is necessary.
You will receive a confirmation e-mail within a couple of days.
