NYC Walk: Searching for Holiday Spirit

--arranged and lead by Warren Jahn--

Monday December 16, 2024

Rain Date: Tuesday December 17, 2024

Spouses, Significant Others, and Guests Welcome!

Join us for a walk from the East Village to Rockefeller Center to see some of New York's iconic Christmas decorations.

The walk is a little more than 5 miles about 2 1/2 hours plus time for lunch midway through the walk. Those with less time or energy can easily shorten the walk.

--GETTING THERE--

Take the 9:00 AM train from Saugatuck to Grand Central Terminal.

Meet on the platform in Saugatuck by the ticket machines

or find your own way to GCT and meet us at the clock.

Scheduled arrival at Grand Central is 10:14 AM.

After a restroom stop, we'll meet by the clock.

Please tell Warren if you will not be on the train; plan to arrive at the clock by 10:15.

--ABOUT THE WALK--

From Grand Central we will take the #6 Subway to Astor Place to begin our walk. The walk will take us to Washington Square Park, through Greenwich Village, then along the Highline to Hudson Yards. Lunch will be at or near Hudson Yards. After lunch we will head east to Macy's holiday windows, then up Sixth Avenue to Bryant Park and Rockefeller Center. At Rockefeller Center we will watch the light and music show on the facade of Saks Fifth Avenue, see the Rockefeller Center Tree, and maybe stop in at FAO Schwartz and Lego.

There are many opportunities to shorten the walk for those with less time or energy. These include taking the subway back to Grand Central from Hudson Yards or Macys.

--RETURN TO CONNECTICUT--

We will walk east to Park Avenue and then south on Park Avenue to Grand Central Terminal. Then Metro North to Connecticut.

PLEASE RSVP so you can be alerted if a weather postponement is necessary.

You will receive a confirmation e-mail within a couple of days.
