NYC Walk: First Things First

Our first walk of 2026 will take us down First Avenue to First Street and then continue down Allen Street through the Lower East Side to lunch in Chinatown.

--GETTING THERE--

Take the 9:00 AM train from Saugatuck to Grand Central Terminal.

Meet on the platform in Saugatuck by the ticket machines

or find your own way to Grand Central. 

Scheduled arrival at Grand Central is 10:15 AM. 

After a restroom stop, we'll meet by the clock.

IMPORTANT! Do NOT buy train tickets before the morning of the walk. Metro North train tickets now expire at 4:00AM the next day. Any tickets bought in advance will not be valid.

Please tell Warren if you will not be on the train; plan to arrive at Grand Central by 10:15 AM.

--ABOUT THE WALK--

From Grand Central Terminal we will head up to 47th Street and over to First Avenue. Heading down First Avenue we will pass by the United Nations, Bellevue Hospital, Stuyvesant Town, and the East Village - each of which has a story to tell. Once we cross Houston Street, First Avenue becomes Allen Street - one of the main streets of the Lower East Side. After lunch in Chinatown, it is a short walk to City Hall where we can catch the subway back to Grand Central.

--RETURN TO CONNECTICUT--

#4, 5, or 6 subway from Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall to 42nd Street Grand Central. Metro-North train back to Connecticut.
