2017-2018 NYCOMEC Research Manual
The new NYCOMEC Research Manual was distributed in electronic form via Constant Contact on August 18, 2017 to all NYCOMEC trainees, directors of medical education, associate directors of medical education, program directors and program coordinators. The content of the manual has been revised to correct referenced web sites and make minor modifications to the text. However, last year's manuals are still usable.
This annual publication provided by NYCOMEC helps foster research activity by our residents.
David Yens, Ph.D., Research Director, NYCOMEC, will continue to be available to meet with your programs' staff and residents to facilitate research.
NYCOMEC is also continuing its series of monthly NYCOMEC Blue research webinars which discuss different aspects of research. These webinars are archived on NYCOMEC website. To access them please go to

White Coat Ceremony for Class of 2021
The second class of medical students from New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro (A-State) received their white coats on August 11, 2017, at a ceremony where they pledged their commitment to the osteopathic profession. ACGME Seeks Volunteers to participate in Milestones Work Group
The ACGME is in the early phases of planning and development for Milestones 2.0, and is assembling
a work group that will be responsible for reviewing the current Milestones to determine what, if any, changes need to be made, by specialty (Surgery, Pathology, Transitional Year). Participants should be proficient in one or more of the Competencies and be familiar with the Milestones, but need not be physicians. For more information, email

INTERNAL MEDICINE REVIEW COMMITTEE:
New FAQs for Subspecialty Faculty Scholarly Activity
While the General Subspecialty FAQs for Internal Medicine are still under revision, the FAQ concerning subspecialty faculty scholarly activity has been published ahead of the rest due to significant revisions to the Committee's expectations regarding the related requirements. Osteopathic Recognition Brochure An Osteopathic Recognition brochure has been developed and is now available in the Osteopathic Recognition section of the ACGME website. The brochure provides basic information and addresses common questions related to Osteopathic Recognition.
Osteopathic Recognition Presentations The Osteopathic Principles Committee has posted additional presentations in the Osteopathic Recognition section of the ACGME website. The newly posted slide sets were presented at osteopathic conferences in the last six months.

TIVRA - Update and Verify Trainee Contract Information
The Trainee Information Verification and Registration Audit (TIVRA) system is now open for institutions to
UPDATE and VERIFY contract information previously reported for the
2016-2017 academic year and
REPORT new and continuing contracts for the
2017-2018 academic year.
To access TIVRA system, please visit
AOA Opportunities and choose program login (on the left side of the split screen). Each institution must update each contract for every osteopathic trainee within their hospital
no later than October 15, 2017. Any intern, resident or fellow not registered by the deadline date will not have their training recognized or approved by the AOA.
