NYCOMEC is pleased to assist our member institutions with all documentation requirements related to contracts, registration, completion of training and verification of education. Please be reminded that NYCOMEC registration forms and hospital contracts for each new and returning trainee were due by July 1, 2016. If you have not submitted the required documents, please contact Stephanie LaBarbera, M.H.A., Manager of Trainee Services. In addition, please notify NYCOMEC of any trainee status changes, (i.e. medical leave, resignation or termination).

To assist our member institutions in providing quality didactic lectures, NYCOMEC is forming a Speakers Bureau comprised of medical experts who are available to come to your institution for grand rounds presentations.

Dr. Broder Congratulated Graduates from Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center
On June 27, 2016, twenty three new physicians graduated their residency programs from Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center. They represented the fields of Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, and Podiatry.

NYCOMEC Research Director Invited to IAMSE Faculty Development Course
David P. Yens, Ph.D., Research Director, NYCOMEC and TouroCOM - Middletown Campus, participated in an invited Faculty Development Course presession:
An Introduction to Medical Education Research - From Concept to Publication along with Peter de Jong, Ph.D., Leiden University; Jane Dumsha, Ph.D., PCOM; and Grace Brannan, Ph.D., Ohio CORE, at the 20th Annual International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE) Meeting, that took place in Leiden, Netherlands, between June 4 and June 7, 2016.

Dr. Steier Appointed Executive Dean for TouroCOM in New York
Kenneth Steier, D.O., Dean, TouroCOM - Middletown Campus, was appointed Executive Dean of TouroCOM in New York.
He will continue his role as Middletown Campus Dean, and in the new capacity he will be responsible for ensuring the continued alignment of the administrative, admissions and academic processes on both Harlem and Middletown campuses.
Robert Goldberg, D.O., will remain as Dean of TouroCOM - Harlem Campus, with continuing responsibility for the daily administration of the campus.

NYITCOM Researchers Awarded Grant for Studying the Effects of OMM on Parkinson's Disease
The American Osteopathic Association (AOA) has
awarded a $140,000 grant to NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine researchers to study the effects of osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) on patients with Parkinson's disease.
"The main objective of the two-year study is to see if OMM affects balance and motor function," said Associate Professor Sheldon Yao (D.O., '02), the lead researcher for the project. To read more please click here.
Dr. Yao and his colleagues, including Drs. Jayme Mancini, Joanne Donoghue, Adena Leder, and Joerge Leheste, are among only nine teams nationally to receive a portion of more than $1 million in research grants from the AOA to conduct studies involving osteopathic manipulative medicine.
