ACGME Institutional Accreditation Committee Changes and Updates
The Institutional Review Committee (IRC) will begin its 2017-2018 review of Sponsoring Institutions in August 2017 under the leadership of Susan Kirk, M.D., who will assume the position of Chair on July 1, 2017. The majority of annual accreditation decisions will be made at the Committee's January 24-26, 2018 meeting.
In preparation for the next annual review, the upcoming Annual Institutional Update in the Accreditation Data System (ADS) has been scheduled for July 5-August 18, 2017. Please note that this year's Annual Institutional Update will include minor revisions, including elimination of certain questions and modification of others.
Institutional Citations
At the conclusion of its second annual accreditation review, the IRC recently approved the automatic resolution of some institutional citations. At the end of Academic Year 2016-2017, the Committee will resolve institutional citations issued prior to July 1, 2015 for Sponsoring Institutions that have maintained a status of Continued Accreditation in the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 academic years. This decision will eliminate the need for Sponsoring Institutions to respond to citations that preceded the Committee's implementation of the Next Accreditation System. Remaining institutional citations will be reviewed annually, beginning with Academic Year 2017-2018.
