NYCOMEC Speakers Bureau Provides New Opportunities for Scholarly Activity

To assist faculty in meeting scholarly activity requirements, NYCOMEC is establishing a Speakers Bureau. The Speakers Bureau will be comprised of affiliated physicians and faculty who are available to present at another institution's grand rounds, medical symposium, or other medical education programs.  These presentations meet the ACGME's Common Program Requirements on scholarly activity for faculty [Standard II.B.5.b).(3).

NYCOMEC will maintain a list of speakers and their topics, and promote these speaking engagements among our membership. We will work with all parties to arrange mutually convenient dates and times for each presentation.

Topics may include a broad overview of a specific field of medicine/surgery; a particular clinical issue and/or case presentation; as well as other topics related to the profession of medicine, such as practice management, risk mitigation, coding, quality assurance, etc.  If there are other staff members within your organization whom you feel would be an asset to our Speakers Bureau, we invite them to participate, as well.

To participate in the Speakers Bureau, please complete a Speaker's Form and return it to NYCOMEC via:  fax (516-686-3767); email (splayer@nyit.edu) or mail.  If you would like additional information about the Speakers Bureau, please contact Sharon Player, Manager of Communications & Special Projects at 516-686-1283.

As we collectively move forward with the ACGME Single Accreditation System, NYCOMEC will continue to look for innovative ways to assist our member institutions in achieving and maintaining ACGME accreditation.
GME Needs Assessment Survey Underway

In August, at the AOA Cluster meetings, the PTRC and COPT approved a resolution to establish an alternative pathway for AOA accreditation for AOA-accredited programs with ACGME pre-accreditation and continuing pre-accreditation status.

The Resolution allows programs that are due for an AOA inspection and have met the criteria below, to request from their Osteopathic Specialty College, a possible postponement of their AOA site visit for up to 24 months.

To be considered for a postponement, programs must have:
  • received five years of continuing approval at their last AOA accreditation site visit, and
  • have attained ACGME Pre-Accreditation or Continuing Pre-Accreditation status.
