FOUNDATION NIGHT WRAP-UP

" Wind Beneath Our Wings" - The FAWCO Foundation Fundraising Night - took place Saturday, March 12 at The Lufthansa Training Center in Frankfurt, Germany.

Foundation President, Patti Meek, welcomed approximately 120 winged and feathered delegates and guests and served as hostess for the festivities.

The evening began with cocktail hour and an opportunity to peruse the Silent Auction tables which offered more than 220 items!
Dinner followed, offering a delicious buffet with starters, soup, traditional German delicacies and, of course, dessert.

The Silent Auction closed in stages with some last-minute frantic bidding as everyone hovered over the coveted items.

Then it was time to get down to the serious business of fundraising with the Live Auction.  Celeste Brown got the crowd into a lively spirit and then commenced with the Auction.  By the time Celeste was through, enthusiastic participants had raised $11,500 bidding on beautiful custom jewelry pieces and some lovely getaways, both in the U.S. and Europe.  Thank you, Celeste, for being an Auctioneer extraordinaire!

Quilt and Diamond Ring sales had been brisk throughout the weekend as the delegates anticipated the drawing for the Diamond Ring that evening.  And the winner was.....see below.

The costume contest was a lively affair with judging using the always popular Clap-o-Meter.  This year's winner was Wendy Leyland of AAWE Paris with her beautiful black and purple feathers and headdress.

Adding to the fun was the newly introduced Big Quiz.  Hosted by Janet Davis, Carol-Lyn McKelvey and the entire AIWC Cologne team, three rounds of questions kept teams busy as the Silent Auction team readied themselves for the check-out process.  The big winner was TEAM 10 and all the members were awarded feather-adorned mugs.  Who knew that Tokyo had the most Michelin-starred restaurants of any city....TEAM 10 knew!

The check-out process was smooth and seamless and everyone left with a smile on their face and goodies in hand.  The Silent Auction netted $7,000!

As always, the conference delegates and guests reached deep into their pockets throughout the weekend to once again make Foundation Night a huge success.

Preliminary figures indicate total proceeds of $30,000 which will be used to support The FAWCO Foundation Programs.

The FAWCO Foundation board is truly grateful to all the volunteers, donors and participants who contributed to the success of the Wind Beneath Our Wings Fundraiser. Your generosity will allow us to continue making a significant impact on many people's lives with the truly worthy programs supported by The FAWCO Foundation, FAUSA and FAWCO member clubs.

Thank you one and all and we hope to see you again in  2017 when we gather in Mumbai!
