Celebrating the New Year at Amigos

We had an exciting start to the New Year at Amigos de Jesús! Despite a long rainy season that made travel very difficult, we welcomed many visitors to spend the new year with us, including many beloved former volunteers and teachers. The kids loved having visitors who helped them make tamales, played games and instruments, shared photos with them, celebrated birthdays, and made Christmas cookies! We are grateful for the love that our former volunteers and teachers continue to give to the children and adolescents.

On New Year’s Eve, after a nice dinner and a group game, we celebrated with dancing and fireworks. Just before midnight, we all moved to the creek to find Año Viejo, a mannequin made of fireworks which represents the old year that is about to pass away. Everyone had a firework and aimed the firework towards Año Viejo, eventually setting him off in a burst of flames! Shortly after a final fireworks show, the kids went to sleep for the first time in 2025.

On January 6th, we celebrated Three Kings Day at Amigos de Jesús. To start our celebration, we welcomed our parish priest Padre Jobel to say Mass. We are so grateful for his presence with us since moving to the area this summer. After Mass, some very exciting guests met the kids outside the chapel - the three kings! We followed them to the multi-purpose room where they had placed gifts for all of the children and teens. The three kings handed out the gifts to each child and young adult, and after a quick photo, they got to unwrap them! The generosity of all of our benefactors made this Christmas and Epiphany very special for our children. Thank you for your continued support!
