ABOUT THE NYPD
Now is the time to join the NYPD, the nation's top law enforcement agency
The New York City Police Department is a recognized leader in law enforcement and the reason New York is now one of the country's safest cities. As our mission of protecting and serving grows more complex, so does our need to add the most talented and dedicated people to our ranks.
The police profession offers unlimited opportunities to those with courage, compassion, and respect. Every day, you'll confront real world issues and develop problem-solving skills that will serve you anywhere you go.
From uniform patrol, the backbone of our department, to specialized units that focus on specific issues, the NYPD will give you the kind of experience and training that is unavailable anywhere else.
Because we are the county's largest police department, the chances to advance
and grow are limited only by your determination.
One Of The Most Diverse Forces in the World
New York is among the world's most diverse cities. So its police department needs to be as well.
Our hiring process ensures equal opportunities to anyone who wants to join, and we welcome diverse candidates to help the NYPD reflect the communities we serve.
The NYPD also needs candidates who have language skills. Serving the great diversity of people living in New York City demands that we be able to communicate effectively with everyone.
Are you ready for the challenge - and the opportunity - of a lifetime? Join the NYPD where the Patrol Officer, the Problem-Solving Officer, and the Crime Fighting Officer are one in the same.
To be considered for a position with the NYPD, candidates must pass the Police Officer Written Exam, which is designed to measure cognitive ability, observational skills, and mental acuity. While passing the written test is mandatory, it is not a guarantee of a job.
