We sometimes say the three most important things for a good road are drainage, drainage, and drainage. In reality, the three most important things are safety, communications, and drainage. If you can solve the problems related to those issues, most of the rest of our problems are minor.

One of the most important ways we communicate with the public is with the quality of our work zones. A well-managed work zone improves safety for us, our crews, and the public. It is two out of three priorities in a single shot.

Starting this month, we are holding a series of work zone workshops around New York State that are part of our grant from the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee to provide full work zone packages to 30 municipalities across the state. The locations have been chosen to be near the grant winners. While we have reserved some spaces for them, there are still spaces available for everyone else at no cost!

We would love to see you at one of the work zone workshops. By attending, you will help improve traffic safety and communication with the public while you are working on your next drainage repair. Three for three!

Stay safe out there and we hope to see you on the road.

NYSDEC Issues REVISED Limited Enforcement Discretion for ACT and Heavy-Duty Omnibus

The applicability under the limited enforcement discretion has not changed: it continues to apply to heavy-duty vehicles used for snow plowing purposes (both dedicated plows and intermittent plows, such as refuse trucks and dump trucks that are converted for plowing purposes as needed) and for street cleaning (e.g., street sweepers and catch basin trucks). This enforcement discretion action will allow New York State and Local Agencies to purchase internal combustion models for model years 2025 and 2026 to fulfill emergency needs.
