Safety is more than just a slogan or a phrase. It requires all of us to work together to balance what needs to be done against the risk of harm. The concept of a safe systems approach is that everyone should get home safely every single day whether they are walking along the road, working in a work zone, or travelling to and from work or school.

To this end, we have two new initiatives that may help you improve safety in your community. The first looks familiar, a work zone package give away focused on those who have lost work zone equipment to fires, floods, or theft. We are scheduling no-cost work zone workshops near those who are selected. Extra spaces will be open to other municipalities in the area. The deadline to apply is November 15.

The other initiative is assisting NYSDOT with their Roadway Departure Safety Action Plan. As part of this plan, we are hosting a series of four webinars between the Bridge Conference and deer season (OK, Thanksgiving), which will focus on actions your agency can take to improve highway safety for all users.

We have more activities that you may want to check out, including our fall workshops, the Conference on Local Bridges, and the winter series of fundamental webinars. You can read about all of these activities below.
