NYSBCA's 64th Annual Convention a Success
More than 140 school transportation professionals gathered this past weekend to attend NYSBCA's 64th Annual Convention held in Port Jefferson, NY.

Highlights of the convention included workshops on electric buses, the VW settlement, school bus safety preparedness, the economic outlook, ride sharing, tax reform and more. Presentation handouts are available on NYSBCA's website or click here to review.

In addition to the convention workshops, the Association celebrated industry champions during it's Annual Awards Dinner sponsored by Leonard Bus Sales and Truck King International. Bree Allen, NYSBCA President, presented awards in addition to Rick Reichenbach with Reichenbach Enterprises who sponsors the Heart of the Industry awards.

Bart Marksohn and Carmen Tomeo
WE Transport, Inc., Towne Bus and Van Trans

Bart Marksohn (right) is President and Chief Financial Officer of We Transport. Growing up in the family business, Bart started his career on the ground floor, assisting in repairs of buses in the shop.  Whether it’s pursuing cutting-edge technology or coming up with bold ideas, his mission is always the same, improving and growing the already successful company. Perhaps his greatest achievement was the creation of a company where everyone feels like family. Bart treats all employees with respect and understands the importance of teamwork.

Carmen Tomeo (second to the right) is the Chief of Executive Officer of We Transport. Carmen joined the WE Transport family in 1997 and paved the way for much of the success our organization enjoys today. Just like the Marksohn children were born into the transportation industry, so was Carmen. He has transportation in his heart, in his soul and even drove school buses before he had a license to drive them while working for his Dad's company J.D. Tomfor. Carmen not only brought his expertise and knowledge with him when he arrived on Bart's doorstep, but more importantly brought the same level of commitment to safety, efficiency and fiscal prudence that the WE Transport family practices every day.
Legislator of the Year Award
New York State Senator Carl Marcellino

The Legislator of the Year Award is presented to the person or persons who demonstrate an immense amount of commitment and unmatched dedication to the Association’s mission to provide the safest, most reliable, cost-effective and unmatched student transportation possible. Senator Marcellino, Chair of the New York State Senate Education Committee, has been a key advocate for the NYSBCA’s mission. His steadfast support of NYSBCA’s industry and, most importantly, his passion for safe student transportation is exemplified by being the prime sponsor of the pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing of school bus drivers bill (S2587-E) recently signed into law by Governor Cuomo.
Heart of the Industry | Employee of the Year Award
Marcos Bisono
Guardian Bus Company, Inc.

Marcos Bisono (left) has been a model employee at Logan Bus Company Inc. & Affiliates for 20 years. He went from school bus driver to lead driver, to yard manager to operations manager of a 350+ bus fleet in Long Island. When Logan opened Guardian bus in 2014, they were looking for a proven savvy veteran who knew how to make the buses run efficiently and on time, while at the same time the drivers respected and wanted to work for. Since Marcos has become Operations Manager in 2016, Guardian has flourished under his leadership. Employee morale is high, out of service list is low, and the operation could not be running smoother.
Heart of the Industry | Driver of the Year Award
Kenneth Kedenburg
Suffolk Transportation Service, Inc.

Kenneth Kedenburg (center of picture) goes above and beyond in his job. He is always willing to help his fellow drivers with directions, moving buses or whatever the need may be. You can give him any task to complete -- there is no job or too small for Kenneth. He is always at work early, and has great attendance. He is a great role model and is always available to help drivers on new routes, show them procedures, processes and company standards. Kenneth is a former Marine, truck driver and has been a bus driver for the last 12 years. His father was a truck driver, mother is a bus driver and sisters are bus drivers.
At its Annual Fundraising event, the members donated more than $1600 to Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation, whose vision is to increase awareness about sudden cardiac arrest and influence changes that will reduce mortality through the increased use of bystander CPR and AEDs.
Finally, thank you to all of our convention sponsors. Without them, our convention and other activities would not be nearly as successful. Please take a moment to review each sponsor and thank them for their support when you see them in the field.
