Sunday, October 1st marked the start of Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM)! As we embark on this month-long journey, we're reminded of the strength of uniting to address a critical issue affecting countless lives.
This DVAM, the New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence, is joining the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV), Other State DV Coalitions and Domestic Violence Services Providers across the US and its territories in the national campaign for Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM.) #Every1KnowsSome1 impacted by domestic violence, and everyone has a role to play in preventing domestic violence and supporting survivors. Here's how you can make an impact during DVAM:
- Engage with us on social media using the hashtag #Every1KnowsSome1 as we share stories, resources, and messages of hope, spreading the word and creating a united front against domestic violence.
- Having informed conversations about domestic violence requires understanding what it is—that it’s much more than physical abuse—and why ‘just leaving’ isn’t so simple for survivors. Supporters like you can help educate your friends, families, and communities and start these conversations!
- On Thursday, October 19, wear purple to show your support of domestic violence survivors and your commitment to ending abuse! Take a selfie in your purple and share it on social media with #PurpleThursday #DVAM #Every1KnowsSome.
As a society, we all have a role in changing the narrative about what domestic violence is, to whom it happens, and how we can support those who are experiencing it and, ultimately, prevent it entirely. Every1KnowsSome1 who is impacted by domestic violence, and Every1 has a part to play in supporting our work to end domestic violence.
