September is National Self-Care Awareness Month

September marks National Self-Care Awareness Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the tireless efforts of advocates and programs dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and crime. Advocates work diligently to provide survivors with essential services while prioritizing their self-care and well-being. Acknowledging their challenges and establishing healthy habits to sustain their work and themselves is crucial.

We recognize the significance of the work of advocates and endeavor provide resources to fortify their resilience, wellness and self-care practices. NYSCADV has meticulously curated an assortment of resources, ranging from webinars to toolkits. DV Counts Day is September 6, 2023

On September 6, 2023, Domestic Violence Programs in New York State will join domestic violence programs across the US in participating in the National DV Counts Day on September 6, 2023, organized by the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV.) This is a one-day, unduplicated count of adults and children seeking domestic violence services in the United States. This annual survey documents the number of people who sought services in a single 24-hour period, as well as the types of services requested, the number of service requests that went unmet due to a lack of resources, and the issues and barriers domestic violence programs face in providing services to victims.

Each year, the Domestic Violence Counts Report summarizes this data and is instrumental in raising awareness about domestic violence and the incredible work local domestic violence programs do daily, providing lifesaving services to survivors and their families. Year after year, state, territorial, and local advocates, national experts, journalists and reporters, and policymakers rely on the report to understand the realities advocates and survivors face. Get Ready for DVAM 2023!

This fall, NYSCADV is joining the National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV), other state and US territory coalitions, and local domestic violence programs across the country in the national combined campaign for Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) and #GiveForDV.

These two joint initiatives aim to raise awareness, increase donations and volunteer efforts, and deepen community engagement by connecting our work nationwide. Coalitions and DV programs are critical to building DVAM and GiveForDV into a larger movement to end the stigma and myths surrounding domestic violence and to mobilize charitable support for domestic and sexual violence programs at the local, state, territorial, and national levels.

The joint campaign this year includes:

  • A month of educational/awareness copy and graphic assets during DVAM
  • DVAM Week of Action (October 17th-23)
  • Two official GiveForDV Giving Days that your organization can participate in (one during the DVAM Week of Action and one in November on GivingTuesday)
  • A Peer to Peer Fundraising webinar to gear up for DVAM on Tuesday, September 12 at 3:30 PM. Click here for more information.
  • A new, free-to-use fundraising and toolkit platform for participating coalitions and local programs!
  • Resources to continue your efforts through your end-of-year fundraising
