Projects, Communities, + People in the News HP Hood is expanding its Arkport, Steuben County, manufacturing facility to meet an increasing appetite for its Heluva Good! dips. The company will soon break ground on a 2,400-square-foot addition to their plant. The new space will accomodate the installation of a state of the art dip blending system as well as new processing equipment. | The Evening Tribune has more here. Remington gun factory (RemArms) in operation for nearly 200 years is set to close March 4. The factory site in the village dates to 1828, with many of the current buildings constructed early in the 20th century. The plant currently employs about 270 workers, according to union officials. | Learn more about the company's announcement on ABC News. Herkimer County IDA has received a $270,000 Brownfield Opportunity Area grant from the state -- Herkimer is estimated to contain 150 brownfields, impacting over 450 acres in the county's urban centers. The funding will allow HCIDA to complete a county-wide pre-planning inventory and analysis of brownfield-affected areas within Herkimer County. | The Rome Sentinel has more here. NY-BETA Technologies is planning a $41 million expansion to their Plattsburgh facility, with nearly half of that money coming from a state grant. The expansion is expected to create 85 full-time jobs in exchange for a $20 million grant awarded from ESD's Regional Economic and Community Assistance Program. | Read more on My Champlain Valley. The completion of the Village of Westbury's Downtown Revitalization Initiative has been announced. The initiative will help Main Street businesses with new customers as well as help maintain a young and vibrant workforce which is essential to attracting and retaining larger companies It also has the potential to address key infrastructure needs. | Newsday has the story here. Officials with the U.S. Commerce Department's CHIPS Program Office were making the rounds across upstate New York this week as part of a nationwide tour of states that likely will be participating in the federal government's plan to reinvigorate the domestic computer chip industry. The group was in Syracuse, and was scheduled to travel to Utica and Albany as well. | See the coverage on the Times Union. An expansion project at JMA Wireless' new South Side Syracuse campus will benefit from nearly $4 million in tax breaks. The Syracuse IDA unanimously approved resolutions tied to the 5G equipment maker's request for assistance with its $24.4 million expansion on about six acres of land across South Clinton Street from the company's global headquarters opened last year. | Read more about the project on Syracuse.com. Ithaca Startup Works is set to expand its hardware accelerator programs thanks to a new $2 million "Build to Scale" grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration. A local matching fund of $2 million, including $1 million from NYSTAR brings the total award amount to $4 million. | See the Cornell Chronicle's story here. The County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency (CCIDA) Board of Directors approved a $400,000 loan to support the installation of new equipment for Original Crunch Roll Factory, LLC. The new equipment will result in the retention of 38 jobs at the plant, and creation of eight additional jobs. | Read more on The Post-Journal. Peaker plants to stay online in New York City to meet New York City's electricity needs until a transmission line for Canadian hydropower comes online. The state's independent grid operator (NYISO) determined that four peaker power plants, otherwise slated for retirement due to emissions rules, need to stay online to avoid a reliability shortfall. | Politico has the latest here. Offshore wind developers will get a chance for do-over of New York Projects. Beginning November 30, NYSERDA will allow Orstead and others to submit new wind farm bids after existing contracts became untenable due to inflation and supply chain issues. | See the full story at the Times Union. The New York State Cannabis Control Board voted to approve a settlement that would resolve two lawsuits and end a three-month-long freeze on recreational dispensary openings across the state. The agreement would salvage the state's interim licensing program, which gives the first opportunities to sell cannabis legally to people who were convicted of marijuana-related offenses and others directly touched by the war on drugs. | Read more at the New York Times. The first day of the session will be on Wednesday, January 3rd and Governor Hochul will host her State of the State Address on Tuesday, January 9th in the Assembly Chamber within the New York State Capitol.
