NYSEDC Economic Development Conference Agenda is live

The NYSEDC Economic Development Conference is a week away and we anticipate over 370 attendees. The program is now live and packed with content to educate our membership on best practices, engaging keynote addresses and panel discussions including:

  • Blueprint for the Future of New York State's Economy
  • Women in Power, The Future of New Yorks Energy Infrastructure and Ecosystem
  • Keynote addresses by Drew Fitzgerald, co-founder of JUST Water and Tim Doelman, CEO of fairlife, NYSEDC 2024 Project of the Year.

GE Vernova will invest more than $105 million at its advanced research center in Niskayuna. The investment will support construction of new labs, including a carbon capture complex, as well as expansion and rehabilitation of existing facilities and the creation of 75 jobs.The funds will support research across a range of technologies, including alternative fuels and robotics for wind energy. | Read the story here.

The New York Power Authority (NYPA)has approved a strategic plan to expand renewables in New York. The plan will add over 3GW of renewable capacity across 37 projects, most of which will come from solar PV, with the rest from battery energy storage systems (BESS). In total, 30 of the projects are solar PV – either utility-scale or distributed energy resources (DER) – and would add 2.8GW of capacity. Projects are expected to be completed as early as the second quarter of 2025 up until Q4 2030. | Click here for the story in PV Tech.

An ambitious proposal to put a soccer stadium with retail and housing in Albany's Liberty Park will now have competition, as the group behind the proposal's exclusive right to the property has expired. This comes as the city potentially is in line for $400 million from the State, as Governor Kathy Hochul is proposing to "strengthen our State’s capital city". | Read the story at CBS 6 Albany.


NYCEDC released a Request for Proposals (RFP) to source program operators for the NYC AI Nexus. This new initiative will facilitate collaboration between NYC-based startups/founders and local businesses, in order to identify, build, and adopt Applied AI solutions. | Learn more here.

Oswego County economic development officials are asking New York State for $7 million to more than double the size of an industrial park located 10 miles from the future site of Micron Technology’s semiconductor plants.The County of Oswego Industrial Development Agency (IDA) unanimously granted permission to apply for a $7.2 million grant through the Fast NY program. | Read the article here.

The NYS Legislature Announces 2025 Joint Legislative Budget Hearing Schedule


Senate Finance Committee Chair Liz Krueger and Assembly Ways and Means Committee Chair J. Gary Pretlow announced the joint legislative hearing schedule on the State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2025-26 Executive Budget Proposal.

These hearings, each of which focuses on a programmatic area of the Executive Budget Proposal, are intended to provide the appropriate legislative committees with public input. Click here for details.
