New York Highlights Economic Opportunities for the Life Sciences Industry

Dutch animal feed producer Denkavit has secured a new tax deal to support a $3.1 million warehouse expansion in Aurelius. The Cayuga County Industrial Development Agency approved a five-year extension to Denkavit’s existing PILOT agreement. | Finger Lakes 1 has the story here.

FuzeHub, a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting New York State manufacturers and technology companies, and a robust coalition of industry, academic and government partners have announced a strategic commitment through their collaborative Upstate Makes initiative to further explore the power of glass as an innovative advanced material to strengthen the U.S. microelectronics industry. | MarketWatch has more here.

The Port of Albany was recently awarded recertification by Green Marine, the leading environmental program for the maritime industry that helps participants improve environmental performance beyond regulations. The Port of Albany was the first port in New York state to volunteer and certify in the Green Marine program and has continued to meet the environmentally forward benchmarks with consistent and consecutive Green Marine certifications since 2016. | See about the certification here.

The Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate in Rome had a $599 million economic impact on the Utica-Rome and Syracuse metropolitan statistical areas in fiscal year 2024. It’s an increase of 17.7 percent, or $90 million, from fiscal year 2023, the Rome Lab announced. | Read more at CNYBJ here.

A partnership between Empire State Development and The State University of New York (SUNY) has broken ground on a $75 million academic project in Farmingdale, located on Long Island. | See the story at ReBusiness Online.

A new housing development broke ground on Syracuse's Near Eastside, promising to address the city's housing crisis while promoting diversity. Eric Ennis, Executive Director of the Syracuse Industrial Development Agency, emphasized the project's focus on mixed-income housing. | More on CNY Central here.

The Village of Sleepy Hollow has taken another step forward in its efforts to revitalize the downtown business district, announcing the purchase of a long-vacant parcel at 64-68 Beekman Avenue. The Village simultaneously announced that it had been awarded a $211,500 “Restore NY” Grant by New York State, designed to help fund improvements to the site. | Read more at River Journal Online.

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) today announced nearly $7 million has been awarded to nine projects through the fifth round of the Buildings of Excellence Competition (Competition), which aims to advance best-in-class, energy efficient multifamily buildings in New York. | Learn more about the awardees.

The New York State Public Service Commission (Commission) has approved a portfolio of urgent infrastructure projects valued at $636.2 million, including a $37.1 million NYSEG project in Clinton County. The North Country Chamber of Commerce quickly welcomed the local project approval. | Sun Community News has more.

The Belmont Stakes is coming back to Saratoga Race Course once again in June 2026. Saratoga will host the third leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown and the associated Belmont Stakes Racing Festival next year to accommodate for the completion of the construction of a new Belmont Park in Elmont on Long Island. | See more on the Times Union.

NYS Comptroller Releases IDA Report

New York's 106 local Industrial Development Agencies (IDAs) reported 4,282 active projects with a record-high total value of nearly $136 billion in fiscal year end (FYE) 2023, an increase of 3.1% or over $4 billion, from the prior year, according to an annual report released by State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

New York State Directs New York Power Authority to Build Nuclear Power Plant in Upstate New York


New York’s potential reliance on nuclear power to help the state meet its renewable energy mandates came a step closer on Monday when Gov. Kathy Hochul directed the New York Power Authority “to develop and construct a zero-emission advanced nuclear power plant in upstate New York.”


The governor’s directive came 10 months after she had convened an energy summit in Syracuse as the state struggles to meet the mandates of the 2019 Climate Act.
